Following on from Currys thread - i have to say they have been great.

New 40" Samsung LCD arrived yesterday and i have to say its rather good. For £599 im over the moon. No worse than the £1000 Panasonic that went faulty.

It has a common interface - anyone know what this is for? Instructions say how to use but not what it does.

Is the CI a top up TV type of thing. ie purchase a card, stick it in the slot and get extra digital channels?

Probs wont want one but curious.


TV can also control a motorised wall mount - how lazy is that???????

Is it a slot like a PCMCIA slot on a laptop?

If so then it is to take a "cam" (as on-digital called it) that takes a card like a sky card. This is for pay for digital channels - like Top Up TV (if they are still going!)

Yes - it does look like a PCMCIA slot. Ive searched the web to try and find out and its not very clear.

TUTV seems to be a £10 a month subscription but via a top up tv box (which apparently records the TV from previous day and allows you to access it).

I seem to think you can put a setanta card in - god knows what that is. Then there are all sorts of other obscure cards available.

Anyone use a CAM (conditional access module)?

You can put a Conditional Access Module in there (CAM). Not much use in the UK, unless you want Setanta Sports. I don't *think* any of the top-up TV channels use them*, but I may be wrong.

*They're all done with MHEG slates that force the audio/video PID's to ones that are marked as private data when you enter the PIN, hence why they're so easy to crack.

Im happy enough with std freeview for now. Just curious - its always nice when you see a hole to know what its for.
