Paul TigerB6 - 4/4/08 at 07:09 PM

I'd blame global warming raising the sea level myself!!

That or "well there was this tsunami going up the river......"

blakep82 - 4/4/08 at 07:09 PM

eh?! how did he manage that?!

Delinquent - 4/4/08 at 07:09 PM

LMFAO well if you're gonna do it, might as well do it in style!

How the feck did the captain come to the conclusion he was going to fit under that?!

David Jenkins - 4/4/08 at 07:14 PM

It was probably high enough when he started towards it - I'd guess that the bridge minder lowered it too soon, and ships like that aren't fitted with ABS either!

looks like it was in holland... maybe the captain was high enough when he started towards it

phelpsa - 4/4/08 at 07:16 PM

Well it's a lifting bridge that was up when he started going through and down when the high bits needed to go through!

Guinness - 4/4/08 at 07:31 PM

Judging by the way the bridge of the ship hit the deck of the bridge, he may not have been around to explain it!

Mike

I reckon he was well away from the ship's bridge by the time of the impact!

I know I'd have been running hard in the opposite direction...

matt_claydon - 4/4/08 at 07:36 PM

Was the bridge operator's fault according to the Investigation Report: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welland_Canal#2001_accident

clairetoo - 4/4/08 at 08:41 PM

Is that what they call a `flying bridge`

jlparsons - 4/4/08 at 08:49 PM

The Marine Investigation Report concluded, "it is likely that the [vertical lift bridge] operator's performance was impaired while the bridge span was lowered onto the Windoc."[1]

Ah the good old liquid-lunch!!

blakep82 - 4/4/08 at 09:01 PM

oh yeah, just watched it again. you can see the bridge coming down

Mr Whippy - 4/4/08 at 09:24 PM

is it me or was that boat going rather fast?

RK - 5/4/08 at 12:28 AM

Maybe those tide tables are calculated for a reason...
