I been asked to ask you lot about getting an international Licence.
A friend 2 years ago lost her licence due to pulling a stunt (little more than doing a burn out at the lights), found herself in front of some nutcase
judge who banned her for 5, yes 5 years!!!
Now she's starting to crack and has heard of people going abroad and getting a new licence there and using that instead.
Any of you clued up on this stuff? I ain’t that’s for sure
oh and which countrys drive on the same side as us?
Cheers.
she should've appealed against the 5 year sentence. Cant help with the international license though!
my mate only got a 15 month ban for being drunk losing control and demolishing a stone wall which was a foot thick, and then disappearing from the
scene and being found in a pub.
5 years?!
I've had an international licence (supplied by the AA ) and it was nothing more than a translation into several languages of the conditions of my
GB licence, so that's out.
Many countries drive on the left - Japan and most of the old colonies eg Cyprus. However, I think she would have to have resident status and take a
local test to get a licence.
Banned is banned. She could obtain any variety of licences and would still be unable to drive lawfully here.
Not even worth thinking about. Unless she likes porridge I suppose.

Not sure on the whole international licence thing but surely if you get banned your banned (and the endorsement on the licence is just proof). Getting another licence would give you some legit looking documents but you would still be serving a driving ban.
I really wouldn't want to be in front of a magistrate with that as an excuse for driving when banned...
Never heard of a 5 year ban for dangerouse driving so must be serious i.e. loads of drink and massive damage or manslaughter.
You can get international licences but they were for before the EU so you could prove you had a licence in Europe, dowdays the EU licence is
recognised in most of the world.
However if you procured a licence under false pretences and used it in the UK or the rest of europe then another 5 year ban and probably a custodial
sentance would be next....
Did the crime... do the time
Oh and any insurance, if she had any would be null and void so some innocent would or could be in deep poo if she got in trouble again

The woman that caused the accident that killed my father left the scene and still only got a 2 year ban . Doubt she was just doing a burnt out .If she is caught driving she deserves everything she gets.

For the benefit of an old guy - wtf is a "burn out" ?
wheelspin/smoking tyres
Oh that !
I've often wondered, how do you do that without moving forward?
Not that I'd want to, of course
going though a 40mph speed camera at 75mph (hadn't noticed it) then the next morning doing a smokin burnout at some lights with and unmarked
police car sitting behind taping the whole thing
class
I couldn't say yesterday as she was sitting next to me...
Personally I thought the judge WAS a nutter, sat with her in court and watched the judge dish out heaps of mental fines and bans (people were making
comments about them). She was shaking when it came to her turn and burst into tears at the verdict
I don't even consider a burn out an offence
TBH, cars still under control and not even broke the speed limit.
Oh well I asked...cheers
