A friend of mine got done in exactly the same way recently - and he is an advanced motorcyclist

Didn't cut any ice with the copper though

aren't speed cameras all supposed to be brightly painted now and visible, and camera signs up? or is that just fixed ones? or am i just making that up?
i'm sure these sneaky ones aren't quite legal

no your quite right, though the police have to give notice, usually in the papers I think 2 weeks before a mobile trap.

from that link....

"Mr O'Halloran was compelled to name himself as the driver of a car at the time of an alleged offence under threat of criminal sanction under S172, and that was used to convict him of the criminal offence of speeding. "

now i may be wrong but speeding is a motoring offence, not a criminal offence?? That site seems to be talking cr&p!!

'tis a bummer though but unfortunately i doubt you have any choice really but to cough up and stick to the limit in future. Motorists dont seem to have any rights when it comes to the police / courts - guilty until proven innocent it seems. The fines are totally disproportionate to the crime in many cases - just look in your local paper every week and you will see some scumbag get a trivial fine for assault with about 50p costs whereas speed tax now starts at £60.

This country really is terrible - hammer the motorist at every opportunity especially as the crooks in parliment can call it "green" tax - i hate it now over here and cant wait to emigrate in a couple of years or so.

To our New Zealand members - how are your traffic cops???

I got a NIP the other day. To be accurate SWMBO got it but I was driving......
I was trundling through Rutland and just leaving a small town. The road opened up into a long straight but as I was just bumbling along, I didn't boot it. I spotted the camera van and commented to SWMBO "that'll catch a few today" as the roads were ideal for speeding cars and bikes. It was then I noticed the Tomtom flashing. I'd assumed that the road was a 40 limit but it was a 30. I was doing 38. Bugger. Ironically, SWMBO had just unplugged the Snooper to plug her phone in to recharge!!!

I'm not too bothered as each time I drive, I break the speed limit. So one conviction in 19 years isn't too bad. Although I have had two fines for not wearing my seatbelt........
I'll take my ticket on the chin as I'm a criminal. The speed enforcement guys are there for my safety. If I had not got the ticket, I may well have run over a dozen kids in a bus queue or accidentally caused a holocost...........

....and another thing, if I'd been caught speeding in my home town that weekend, I could have opted to attend the local Fire Station to watch a video about my dangerous behavior. Are the police not singing from the same hymn sheet??
And why does the NIP not give any indication of the punishment? It justs asks for someone to plead guilty...??
Rant over....
