Amongst the gems:

"I thought Europe was a country"

"I know they speak French there"

Ah, good old Kellie Pickler.
She's a Country & Western Singer, famous for her vacancy. Many people suspect it's an act

And yes, I would

Once I hired a car in Chaleston, West Virginia. When I gave my address and got to "England",

Miss Redneck asked "What state is that in."
Me "England is the country."
Her "Yes, but what state is that in."

They have a difficult time knowing what goes on in the next county. let alone in another country. However, when you look good, you lessen the chances you have to think too much. Gives you headaches.

I've had people in the states ask me, on hearing I'm from England:

Is that near Europe?
Do you have to go on a plane to get there?

And my personal favourite...
So what language do you guys speak?

JoelP - 13/4/08 at 07:30 PM

i can well understand someone not knowing that budapest is in hungary, afterall its not a crime to not know geography, but that junk about france and europe (esp considering how famous paris is) was just a step too far.

I must say that one of my pet hates is when a program has a list of language and only lists US english, not UK english. I dont care if its mostly the same, its the principle. If they only want to list one english it should be UK english.

I always thought Cardiff was in Wales, at least it was when I was there last (29 years ago). You learn something new every day!
