Got a ford focus 2.0 tdci about a month ago. Its got 50k miles and is 2.5 years old. Full service history and under warrenty.
When i bought it i thought it had a small noise, garage i bought it from looked and couldn't find anything. I wasn't worried as it was under
ford warranty. That noise has got worse. Took it to the ford dealer to be told "can't hear / find anything wrong, bring it in to the
dealership if there is still a problem for the service manager to see you".
Well took it in, got the foreman to come out with me and got told. They all do that sir, its induction noise.
The noise is (when warm) from just over tickover (say 850rpm) to 1500 rpm. Only occurs when in overrun and in all gears. Ie when slowing down. It
sounds like a high piched squeak-squeak-squeak-squeak sound. Its rate is speed dependent. Its not that loud.
Now I'm no rocket scientist but induction sound is a roar so I'm thinking perhaps wastegate. Has anyone else experienced this, know what it
could be & HOW I GET IT FIXED (its pee'ing me off).
Same car, never heard those noises.
Sounds like a load of typical dealer fob off bollox. They probably dont want to do it as theres no warranty money in it. Make them do it and get on to ford customer care and theyl soon cough.
Got a Mondeo 2.0 TDCI (02 plate, 96k miles) and it doesn't make any squeaking noises on the overrun. Can sometimes hear the turbo whistling quietly, but nothing else.
Unduction noises on over-run!!! Hmmmmm. Find another dealer who knows what they are talking about i recon
Induction noise on over run sounds like a load of b*llocks to me! I mean true on a diesel there is no butterfly valve in the induction system so its the petrol equivalent of WO throttle all the time. but why would you get it only on over run if it was induction noise?
No noise from mine
Hope you get it fixed, took 3 months to get a starting problem fixed on mine
induction noise??Tell him that that is true but tell him to that you have driven another focus 2.0 TDCI wich didn't that strange noise!!
if its a common sound it is listed on the net in a forum of the freaks...
@robocog if a diesel is an oil burner what is a petrol?? both are made from oil....and neither is pure
Tks
plan is to try and get in another blokes 2.0 tdci focus in the office. Mate has a volvo with the same engine and .... no similar noise.
Then thinking of going to the forecourt, test driving a car, when it doesn't make the noise going back and saying "WTF - why does 'they
all do that' not occur on this car?"
really don't want the hassle
slightly tempted to go to the local ford specialist and ask him to diagnose it, pay him 1/2 hour labour and get
him to put it in writing then go back to them. But as i said, i don't want the hassle.

Do they have sealing rings on the injectors? When the fire rings go they make noises like that.
