Insomnia
carpmart - 18/4/08 at 02:40 AM

Anyone else suffer with it?

The older I get the worse it gets. I have no trouble getting off to sleep but if I wake for any reason, pretty much any time of the night from 03.00 onwards, thats it for the night, I am awake!

I often get up early for work to catch flights etc and I spend quite a lot of time in different time zones but its bloody annoying! It also is not dependant on the time I start my nights sleep.

Oh well, got some work I can do!

Me too,I work nights.I am lucky if I get 4hrs sleep after a 14hr shift, especially in the summer.I too have no problem getting off,but its like I have an inbuilt alarm clock that wakes me up after 3-4 hrs then I cant get back off again.I get pretty grumpy by the end of the week.funny thing is I sleep no problem at all at the weekends or if I am off work.

Me too, I can drop off at 11 - 12 pm, be awake again from 1 am and ready to drop off again when its time to get up.... Too much to think about I recon, again weekends are a different story... Time for a new job I think.

And you can't even go and work in the garage at that time of night either.

go and do some grinding

drop a spanner and it's like a H-bomb going off

coozer - 18/4/08 at 08:13 AM

Well, I get into bed about 11pm and lie down, next thing I know is it's 8 hours later and the alarms going off. I always look at it and moan I've just got into bed!

If i have a late night (midnight!) and the alarm goes off at 6.45am I struggle to get up and feel wrecked all day.

Nothing like a good solid 8 hour kip

Trouble is if I don't sleep soon I will be dead!

Dangle_kt - 18/4/08 at 09:15 AM

I'm an 8 hours of sleep a night type of guy, having a baby has ruined that a bit and I feel tired all the time.

Do you insomniacs feel tired, or can you get by with no sleep?

There was a lady at work who used to suffer, she used to say - "I'm off home now, I'm going to treat myself to a bottle of nightol tonight!"

Why not

I seem to have an in-built alarm that wakes me at 4.00am on the dot! It has been like that every night since I had my heart attack 10 years ago ... at 4.00am!

Worst thing is, I've changed jobs a few times since then, worked different shift patterns, but no matter what I do I STILL wake at 4.00am

David Jenkins - 18/4/08 at 11:21 AM

It's about 5:00 for me - no idea why...

Delinquent - 18/4/08 at 11:42 AM

had it all my life, but seem to only really need 4 hours really solid sleep to not feel tooo tired. When our first baby came along 4 weeks ago I didn't sleep from Sunday 6am till Thursday night (though admit, I did then sleep till 6 on friday morning!) but am finding the 2 hours sleep before feeding screams start again rather wearing.

A great technique I was taught was actually by a midwife, and is used for expectant mothers.

Lie flat on your back, starting at your shoulders lift them 1/4 inch off the bed, breathing in, then breath out slowly letting them fall back onto the bed, REALLY concentrate on how it feels as they sink in. then do the same with your elbows, then your hands, then your chest etc working all the way to your feet. If you actually ever make it to your feet you are doing well. Seems to switch off the mind having to concentrate on something so relaxing!

man what a pain in the ar$e

what happens when the clocks go back? is it still 4 am when you wake?

you should move to another country where their 3 hours behind

or get a really boring text book on quantum physics or something to read in bed, bound to knock you out like a poison dart

Ive a similar thing, had it for years now. I have to wake up every hour or 2 to check I've been asleep, wierd I know. If on the very odd occasion I sleep right through then I'm absolutely knackered. My latest for the last 2 years or so is just waking and shouting then running off, I generally stop when I hit the bath. You can guess it takes some explaining if I have any ladies staying over
