I've posted a message in one of the other boards (don't remember which) regarding the chassis being basically of the width in the book and using a wider Capri axle.

I've been told this would cause a slight improvement in the handling (probably so slight that it's not noticable the way Joe Average drives, but hey..)

Any comments gratefully received.

The response was extra width would give better handling and the arches would be filled out, however, the stance of the car woud change slightly as there would be a difference in track between front (narrow)and rear (wide), of course this could be addressed by lengthening the steering arms and wishbones or just ignored

You've sort of answered my question...

I suppose reALLY i WAS {oops, caps lock} searching for voices either disagreeing with the idea of a narrow track on the front and the wider track on the rear or indeed agreeing that it wouldn't do much harm while also making the handling better.

I'd seen the previous postings and thought I'd try for more info if anyone had any...

I'm no expert in car setup but I can't see there being a big problem with having slightly more track width at the back. If you are worried, use a different offset wheel so the centre lines of the front and back are in line.

I'm planning on going down the alternative route of using spacers to increase the track width enough to fill the rear arches (I've got a mk2 RS2000 axle) Personally I think it really ruins the look of a seven (or any car in fact) if you've got a huge space in your arches.

I've pretty much got the answer I was looking for. Well, the confirmation of what I'd been told. With the minimal weight of the Locost compared to the Capri, the weight distribution on the axle shouldn't be any problem.

The difference in the front and rear track isn't actually that big, a couple of inches either side. Actually I think that the smaller track at the front will give the car an ever so slightly more aggressive stance (in a subtle way), which with a bit of luck and a following wind will make it look even better....

As regards the rear arches, I agree with them looking a lot better filled, so the extra couple of inches either side that the Capri axle will provide added to the mint Laser alloys we have should make it look nice.
