Internet problems.
paulf - 22/11/03 at 12:51 PM

I have recently changed my ISP to Virgin.net and am having problems accessing some web sites.I have tried the premium rate help line and was eventually given a change of dial up number but still no good. What happens is i can connect to this site first time everytime but on others such as Ebay and Google i get the server not available error, this also occurs on emails and news groups supplied by virgin, but i can always connect to my freeserve email.
Has anyone else had this problem with Virgin? I am thinking of ditching them and trying another ISP but dont want the hassle if its not there end that is causing the problem.
Paul.

hi
i assume you havent added any other software, antivirus or firewalls updates etc
you could try signing up for a payg (freenet - online signup) account just to test whether its virgin or not without you having to stop virgin. you are welcome to contact me by messenger if i can help further

i would agree the ntl broadband is acceptable (nothing noticably bad or good, it just works. which may counts as good i guess!), but the ntl TV is absolute shite. they're gonna get a letter from me soon. every day there is a selection of channels that wont work, normally the one you really want to watch something on. you have to spend 5 mins rebooting the box to get them back. I'm not too impressed with NTL for anything. TV is too expensive/unreliable. Phone is "ok" and only just ok.
Inet is pathetic!
Email server is very slow. Often timing out before getting messages.
Signal strength keeps varying, usually downwards so that you loose connection.
Customer service is NON-EXISTANT!
The only way you can get a response from them is to leave negative feedback onto their website.

We can get NTL but heard that many bad reports about customer service etc that i didnt want to risk signing a 12month contract.
I am with sky foir TV and find that they are also just as bad for customer service, am having problems with some channels and tried customer helpline , gave up after 50 mins of being on hold It seems that all these companys seem to just be out to get you to sign up and then loose all interest in customer care.

I have a freeserve payg account and it works ok so assume it must be Virgins fault,I am a day to late to cancel this months payment so will give them the rest of the month to sort things out before changing again.

I've been using Virgin for 3 or 4 years - no significant problems in the recent past.

When I have had problems I've had good service by sending them an e-mail (sometimes from work!) - they usually respond about a day later.

After reading this lot - I'm so happy I still only get 4 channels to ignore and not squillions of channels of poo! I don't complain about my 4 as I never watch those either!

MY ISP is http://www.clara.net and never had any problems with them yet. Though broadband it v.expensive IMHO

stephen_gusterson - 22/11/03 at 11:41 PM

Have been with NTL for 3 plus years on cable tv and never ever had a problem with anything.

Had broadband from them 2 years approx. never had a prob for last year. The 1st year there used to be 1/2 day outages once a month or so.

I agree the email server is slow and often dont connect. there is always hotmail.

as with any big company using drongos in call centres, service will be shyte if you need tot talk to a human being.

ntl works for me but do know others have bad experiences.

I have had more problems with my sky box than my ntl cable stuff.

Ive been with Virgin since they started
I have had problems, but have found that by deleting all the files and reinstalling the cd, Its always worked fine after

Virgin. I've got exaxtly the same problems. I have to disconnect and re connect a few times to get it to work.

When I can get my email to work I'm going to complain.
