If it was me, I'd be sticking a spaceframed chassis, with double wishbone suspension etc underneath that body and a serious V8 and transmission in it.
So it looks like an original, but goes, stops and corners like an Indy!

I admit i am not familiar enough with the original to judge whether or not that looks good enough, but I assume it's no TR40! I mean it takes genuine doors and other bits.
Also, you could do worse than the sierra floorpan. Plenty of aftermarket cossie bits available to make it handle. Roll cage and triangulation should help too. It's not as sacrilegious as a Maestro based RS200 is it?! Probably outhandles an original like modern fake snakes do.

but by the time you've got one of these on the road with all the right bits it'll cost more than 8k
I'd much have a lower spec real one - a 64 or 65 fastback with a small block V8 would be perfect
