Would anyone happen to know a rough cost of having gas connected to my house? Im one of the only houses in the street still with oil. My neighbours got it and the supply runs up the driveway so it easily connected.
Speak directly to transco.
You can do it through British Gas, but they add a premium and VAT on top and get transco to do it anyway seeing as they have the licence to pipe
gas.
It can range from a couple of hundred quid to a couple of grand based on distances and any road crossings. Transco will do your quote as a desktop
exercise based on their existing records and will then send you the quote which you must sign and return to instruct the works.
So, you'll have to ask them directly I'm afraid.
It's then just a matter of choosing who you want to rip you off for gas.
If they have to run a pipe to your house, you may be able to save money by digging the trench in advance - it's worth asking Transco anyway.
It was certainly the case when I enquired about getting 3-phase power to my garage.

Thats still cheap for diesel though, would be handy to have a tank of it out the back.

Its no more rip off than oil prices. 600 quid for 900 litres. When i had it filled last year it cost me 400 for 900.
