one of my friends has just bought a 125 motorbike and says he doesn't need a cbt to ride it as he has it on his liccence
now hes only 22
im sure it was before february 2001 that this was true

can anyone shed any light please

thank you for reading

Firstly, a 125 isn't a moped.

I presume you mean he's riding it using the provisional entitlement you get with a car licence? You need CBT for a 125 whenever you got your car licence, it's only mopeds (< 50cc) you can ride without CBT and even then only if you got your car licence before Feb 2001.

I reckon everyone who turns to bikes needs a CBT. Having it on his license just means he's entitled to ride a bike but doesn't mean CBT is not required.

Advise him to go get it done!

His insurance may well want to see it anyway.

You now need a cbt regardless. You cant get on a 50 anymore with a full car licence. Still need cbt

you can if your car licence was issued before 2001.... but you need a cbt for anything bigger than a 50.. i can't be arsed with it so will stick with the moped for the daily 2 mile run to the train station...
