New camera Lens
chrisg - 10/6/08 at 01:34 PM

Hello playmates,

Could anyone suggest a good place to get a new lens for my camera?

It's a nikon D50 and I'd like a standard lens, which I think was 18-55.

Like the one I've got but without the cracked glass

Cheers

Chris

a camera shop? dixons, jessops?

online I'd recommend camera warehouse

presumably it is not economical to repair? or claim on insurance?

oh, I am looking at buying a camera from here

if it happens, I'll post about it. (would go ther in person to collect)

I've just bought cameras for my kids from Allcam World of Portables via Amazon. Very good prices, so might be worth a look for your lens.

a replacment kit lens will cost you penuts on ebay..

IMHO...dont lol..

Spend a bit more and get a nicer bit of glass....the quality in the photos will be worth it!

I might have one 'o them, the D50 has been excellent but that's got more buttons - which is important

Cracked lens, always put a UV filter on, its cheaper than a new lens.

Nikon have three levels and quality of lenses, cheapest are amateur, middle of the range f4.5 f3.5 and solid pro which are the very expensive ,f2.8 and better

The D3 rules

The lens had broken internally, it was f##ked basically.

Actually it was a bit of luck that I dropped it "lens first"

Cheers

Ah yes - but there are some instances that Nikon Uk has not stood by the Waranty on imported cameras ( A bit Crud I know ) done a bit of research on the EBay ones and most of the cheep ones are far east imports.

Worth the risk not too sure ? )

You're better off taking them to somewhere like Fixation for service, if it's still under warranty they'll sort it, and if not it'll be cheaper, turned around faster and probably a better job than Nikon UK. And the girls at the service desk are quite good looking

Fixation usually have a good stock of re-furbed kit in as well, last time I was there they had a pair of D2Hs bodies for £750 and £850
