Just on the news.
Downing Street has urged motorists not to panic-buy petrol and diesel ahead of a planned strike by tanker drivers delivering fuel for Shell on
Friday.
A spokesperson for Prime Minister Gordon Brown said contingency plans were in place to minimise disruption.
Even so, the government said that some petrol stations could run out of fuel.
Hundreds of members of the Unite Union are due to walk out from 0600 BST on Friday until 0600 the following Tuesday in a dispute over pay.
Cynical (even twisted) veiw, if the media kept quiet, no one would have noticed, if the government had kept quiet focus would still be on fuel price, creating an air of "must get fuel at all costs" takes focus off the price....
Yep, diversion tactics, although (being selfish) i have enough Bio to last a year so i'm not too worried, although i won't be able to drive
the kit i do have a disc cutter so if the weather stays good i can cut the roof of of the old tin top and enjoy the sun
What is it with scare mongering on fuel? So Shell drivers will be on strike. Shop somewhere else then. The only thing that causes fuel shortages is
panic buying.

Aren't the shell drivers wanting a 13% pay rise?
Seems to me they're being a tad greedy. I don't know any of the facts about there claim, no doubt they're having to do extra tasks and
all that.
Still seems a lot to ask for to me.
Quick google search reveals that they are supporting the Unions claim for a minimum wage of £36k a year, instead of £34k.
That's not bad for driving a truck is it?
seems far too much to me, though i say that without knowing hours and conditions. Truck driving is hardly skilled labour! (no offense to our resident
truckies
).

Would be well class.
hmmm, i think driving 38 tonnes of highly explosive liquid is actually quite an important job. Its not one i'd want.
During a previous crisis / panic I was passing (on foot
) a petrol station and saw a local with half a dozen catering-size vegetable oil cans in
his boot, filling them with petrol.
Would have been impressive if anybody had hit him up the rear
And what's it got to do with Downing Street ? It's a pay dispute between employees and management of a private company. This Government have
to stick their noses into everything
^^^^ wasn't there someone who was storing petrol in a wheelie bin?
