dare I ask?

OK, please dont riddle me too much but I confess I drive (on occasion) a 1.0 OHV nova. It is mainly used for delivering building materials and for clearing out the house of rubbish after working on it rather than dirtying up the cleaner focus.

Anyway, recently the dash has completely stopped working (temp, fuel level and all warning lights) except for the alternator light, which flickers and glows when I rev over 3500 ish revs!!

Any ideas what the fault is or where to start my investigations?

btw, I did have to change the water pump last week and had to adjust the alternator bracket to remove the belt. Cud it be alternator related??

the battery light will deffo be alternator related as its a charge light rather than a battery light. The Cluster fault could be related.

Best to get your alternator up and running again and then try it.

You've lost the +12V to the instrument panel ?

When you rev to 3.5 k the charge light glows because the feed to it from the alternator is trying to back feed the instruments ?

Check the charge voltage when you rev the engine, should be about 13 - 14 Volts, any more and the regulator in the alternator will have failed, which could have blown the dash 12v supply.

thanks guys!

will hava a fettle this weekend! I remember now that there is 6 x 2.2v cells max in a battery so the alternator charges to 13.2volts.

Yes, I would imagine most circuits are OK to 14v or 15v ish on older cars? Anymore and things start toasting.

Anyway will check it out and let you know...
