Best way to get all your camping gear in a 7?
locoR1 - 15/6/08 at 12:28 PM

Don't Laugh I think I've found the solution

After the last few years of bungee straps and cargo nets with stuff stacked up to the top of the roll bar things stuffed behind seats I brought a cheep roof box of Ebay, unfortunately its a bit bigger than I thought it would be.

Was going to paint it yellow so it blended in a bit but decided A it was never going to blend in and B it would look a bit daft painted yellow on top of the tintop.

What do you think doesn't exactly enhance the looks but would you be embarrassed to drive it like that?

Obviously I will be taking it off when I get to Newark, don't think I would be allowed on an owners club Stand with that on top after all it not the caravan and camping show

Did consider(for about 10 seconds) a tow bar and and taking the trailer tent then I could camp in style but that wouldn't be a good idea or would it?

Looks ace mate!

Mind you, making a detachable tow bar would be cool...

A lot of the freestyle buggies use roofboxes as they have even less luggage space than a 7.

One thing to watch is they do tend to channel the wind into your face if you only have a wind deflector/no screen (you'll be fine though )

Another idea I've seen, on an atom (doing gome?) was rucksacks/motorbike panniers strapped onto the side rails.

Edit: Found it

Looks great! Sometimes those can be had for cheap over here. My brother in law put one on top of his Toyota Yaris which looked pretty funny, but it did the job.

Now, how hard was it to make those nice side panels?

Matt, I'm insulted! Even you should know an F1 stock car has a V8 and not a proper engine like us

Iank, I spotted the freestyle buggies a stoneleigh this year that gave me the idea but it looks good on a freestyle not so good on a seven.

RK, the side panels arnt easy because of the two different radiuses i playned a piece of wood to form them over but there not purfect, I also had some metal bashing lesons from Trev D to fold the return lips over to finish them of.

Hi David if you'd brought one a bit bigger you wouldn't have to take your tent because you could of slept in it I have seen one of those on a seven before and I think you will get away with it because it doesn't look that bad on your car.
