I would imagine everyone thinks their council tax is exhorbitant especially in the light of the increasingly useless services it's supposed to pay for.
My council tax is a fair bit less than yours but then again I live in the impoverished North.

Sounds about average - do you live alone?? If so are you claiming the 25% single person's rebate???

Myke 2463 - 23/6/08 at 10:07 PM

Hi Graeme
4 bed Det Bungalow, Long Sutton £ 127.33 over 10 months.

Cheers, good luck with review.

Mike.

What type of house have you got, and what band is it in?

Each area is different...what someone pays for a band 'E' say, in parts of Surrey (Elmbridge) for instance, would be different to a band 'E' in another borough or county......

£98 a month over 12 months but I imagine mines well overdue a review in the opposite direction

ReMan - 23/6/08 at 10:14 PM

Hmmm
Ours is more than that, but we live in a posh area, wel;l we did, until we moved in.
I'M MORE BOTHERED ABOUT MY GAS BILL!
£80 mth for a 3 bed semi, GCH and cooker, hot water shower, but double glazed throughout?
Still with British Gas, am I being shafted too!

stevebubs - 23/6/08 at 10:18 PM

council tax is about the same as mine - 3 bed semi in nice suburb...

Reman - my gas bill is half that, but the homecare options bring it nearly up to the same level.

Howevr, my electric bill is slightly more than the figure you state....

Council Tax? What's that all about then? I'm due to be coming back to the UK very soon for a couple of years at least and I'd like to be sure of the different costs facing me.

The sums you are all talking about. Are they monthly or annual? I'll be living in Dorset somewhere. Is the tax dear there?

In a rented house who pays this tax? The landlord or the tenant?

mackei23b - 24/6/08 at 08:18 AM

£189 a month for 10 months!!

coozer - 24/6/08 at 09:30 AM

Mike...in 1991 all dwellings/business premises were put in 'Bands' according to value.

Each council throughout England and Wales has their own tariff, which means that a house in Band E in my area of Elmbridge, Surrey, wont be the same as Band E in Waverley (Guildford, Surrey), and so on and so forth throughout England and Wales. Scotland have their own system.

If a property has been built since 1991, then for Council Tax purposes, they try and value it at 1991 prices, to give it a 'Band'.

In a rented property, it is the tenant who pays the Council Tax, usually over a 10 month year......so if your band is D and per annum the total is £1500, that would equate to £150 per month (for 10 months).

You cannot go by county as in 'Dorset', you will have to find the town first, eg Beaminster, and find the local council in which Beaminster is included, and then you wont know which band your property falls in.

As far as house fuel costs go....ie Gas and Electric, we have many companies who are willing to supply this to you, each with their own scams...sorry...prices.

This government in its own weird wisdom, has never built 'storage' facilities for the power it creates. So what is happening?....'they' sell it to Europe, cheaply, who in turn store it, who in turn, sell it back to 'us' when we need it, at grossly inflated prices...

Basic Economics and Commerce course, failed miserably by this government!

As asked in a previous thread....are you sure you really want to come back?

............ and breathe..........

Fozzie
