My garage is seperate to my house so its got its own seperate electricty supply.
For some reason last month EDF decided I'd turned my garage into a nightclub and despite having used 0.01 units per day last quarter and this quarter last year (as clearly shown on their bill) they decided I'd used 370 units in a quarter this time round....
I sent them a stroppy e-mail and got a new bill today.

8 units of electricy = £0.96 CHECK
standing charge for 91 days, £9.41 CHECK

total bill £10.37

add VAT @ 5%

new total £22.58

WTF!!!

You would have thuoght they'd just started doing this electricty lark....

I got a 24 page bill last month from them, basically a reprint of the last few years worth. God only knows why...

EDF are the favourite topic on the Watchdog-type programs. Consistently moronic.

I used EDF when I first got my house as it was the one the previous owners used.
Setup my monthly payments over the phone to amounts I thought we be about right and after about 6 months I had paid a bit more than I had used, but then got a letter saying they were putting my payment up to twice what it was even though I had already paid then more than required so far, had to phone them to stop it.
Also had a problem when I got estimated bills, dont know how they worked them out but they always seemed to estimate I had used about 3 times more than what I had even though they had my average usage stats for almost a year, I tried to give them a reading using the automated system but it kept coming up with an error as I was putting in a value lower than what they had estimated.

Not long after that I changed to Gritish Bass as at that point EDF had become the most expensive as they the only ones not passing on a drop in energy prices.

Same here, got a refund cheque for over £500 last year as they'd been bumping up the monthly payments unnecessarily (I don't read my post ).

I have people knock on my door to read the meter at least every other month, and still get estimated bills all of the time. It's usually meter-reading agency type people, i'm wondering what they're actually doing with the readings, and whether I should just stop letting them in...

I've also just changed to EDF from my previous supplier Scottish Power, who kept increasing my DD even though I was £350 in credit. Then they asked why I was leaving them..........

IME, the majority of the suppliers are cr@p, so I might as well be with the cheapest cr@p supplier.

Yup thats why we use EDF and talktalk for phone/broadband, you have to be on the ball re bills and tell them whats what but i could be paying more and doing the same.

I pay my power suppliers when the bill comes in - no direct debit. I get a small discount if I pay on time, so I don't lose out too much on the DD discount.

I do pay some bills by DD, but keep an eye on the amount of my money they're holding and demand a refund if it's getting too high - this is easier when the bills are fairly constant (phone, water, etc.)
