
Over the past two weeks or so I’ve noticed a noise from my mk2 punto.
when turning right (only when the steering wheel is turned over 180 degrees to the right) i get a funny metallic noise, almost the kind of noise you
would get if you held a screwdriver to a rotating metal surface.
It only happens when turning right, never when turning left, it is not speed dependant, going round corners slow or fast the noise is the same.
It seems to be coming from the front left of the car...
I Haven’t a clue what is up with it, there are no obvious sources of the noise
Any advice greatly appreciated
Sound like the CV joint to me
does it do it when the cars stationary?
i would assume steering rack from what you said, but not if doesn't do it when its stationary
Things that sound immediately plausible:
CV, brake disk dust shield's got a stone in it (unlikely, but easy to check and it happened to me years ago), wheel bearing.
sorry its as said before, cv joint.
check the boot isn't damaged as it could have thrown out all its grease and could be repacked but most likely it'll need replacing
Having totally rebuilt my own tin top's front end i would agree with the CV joint on the driveshaft myself given the sound you describe.
i was thinking CV Joint but why would it only do it whilst tuning right?
I would assume that because a CV joint rotates, it would do it whether it was turning right or turning left
Is there any way to confirm that it is a CV joint?
The boot looks to be in good condition, but thats not to say that the CV joint is.

because it depends where it is worn. My right hand driveshaft did the same clunking sound on left hand bends
cv,s normally click when shagg*d,sounds like it could be a loose wheel bearing allowing the disc to rub against the caliper
CV joint makes a very distinctive noise caused by the balls in the cv joint slapping around in the grooves they run in --- clunking sound a bit like
a kid drawing stick across metal railings --- brup--brup--brup--brup--brup.
CV Noise is always at its most noticeable when applying power on near full steering lock.
Dry scraping sounds are brake or wheel bearing problems.
Of course before checking anything check the wheel nuts are tight.

Check the lower suspension arm mounts, the wife's punto had a similar noise which I thought was the brake disk rubbing due to worn wheel bearings
but setting off from home one morning the suspension arm pulled away from the chassis and the wholc corner of the car collapsed to the ground. Could
have been very bad if she had been travelling at speed.

I Have just replaced both of the bottom suspension arms before my MOT ( about a month ago)
I will go check the bolts are tight
