amazing if your read the comments! Half think its disgusting and should be banned, other half condemning china for changing its traditions.

I thought that.

If it was happening here, and restaurants were told to remove Pork from menus because Muslims or Jews were coming there'd be an uproar!
So I think the Chinese are wrong to insist on it.

I don't see eating dog is any worse than eating any other animal really- it's just a cultural difference.

The accusations of cruelty to animals should be paid attention to- but that is regardless of what type of animal it is!

A few years ago our local curry house was closed when alsatian was found in their freezer !

having lived in Hong Kong for 18 months I shudder to think what was served but I can tell you it all tasted good and I was never poisoned. We wouyldnt think about cooking frogs legs at home but I bet a high percentage of us try em in france ?

I work in deepest darkest Africa, you don't see too much wildlife or stray dogs down here. It may just be a coincidence but the kebabs are excellent.

When I was in France last week I asked The waiter if he had Frogs Legs when he said yes I asked him to hop over the counter and get me egg & chips.

It tastes just like pork. Yum. I had some in the Philippines. Must admit I didn't know what it was at the time. They gave me it to see how I'd react. Only veggies can really complain cos it's no different to eating any other animal. I later got some pictures of one being roasted on a spit.
It would make a good car sticker with the words,
' A dog is for Christmas Dinner not for a wife.'
Like Austin Man I lived in Hong Kong(five years) and I draw the line at when they kill snakes in the street by stripping off the skins, then drinking the blood etc. (Shamshuipo). Eat animals by all means but at least kill them as quickly and humanely as possibly. On this score there is far more case for banning kosher or halal meat than eating dogs.

Go into any Spanish supermarket and you will see a variety of animals trussed, shrink wrapped, frozen etc. It is purely our culture which conditions us to thinking that certain animals are taboo - just look at the sacred cow in India for instance.

I hear that squirrel is making a comeback in this country
