help me pick a holiday!
JoelP - 13/7/08 at 06:53 PM

me and swimbo want to go somewhere HOT, september after the kids are back at school, cheap, and as she's pregnant, somewhere not mental like Ibiza!

Suggestions on a postcard

iank - 13/7/08 at 06:56 PM

Malta or Cyprus sounds like it they might fit the bill.
As you sure being pregnant that she'll be happy with HOT? My missus was complaining about a UK summer being too much heat when she was expecting.

JoelP - 13/7/08 at 07:02 PM

funnily enough ive just been upstairs talking to her about malta and cyprus!

She will be 20 weeks by then, so not too far along. Maybe south france would be warm enough though.

I suggested skegness but she wasnt on it

Dangle_kt - 13/7/08 at 07:02 PM

T-gypt

any of the canaries will also be hot and short haul flight to save pregnant wife / husband beating.

tomblyth - 13/7/08 at 07:08 PM

go to Ostend in Belguim sea cat from Dover and its a relaxing good time ! local markets are good pubs are good and you should try the chicken shop ( open 24 hr a day 365 days a year and has been for 20 odd years) and you dont have to fly!

PAUL FISHER - 13/7/08 at 07:10 PM

Fuerteventura,steady temperature's all year,not too hot,we love it.

JoelP - 13/7/08 at 07:11 PM

egypt is suprisingly cheap actually, but i suspect that would be too hot. Whilst i like european cities, ostend may not be quite what she had in mind! I do like boats though

must say i did like the temp in gran canaria when i went, and sue went to lanzarote last year and thought the same. Is fuert a party place or chilling?

cheers for the suggestions!

rayward - 13/7/08 at 07:21 PM

another vote for fuertaventura, we went last year and loved it,

hot during the day but cooled off quite a bit night which meant no problems sleeping.

we stayed at the top of the island at corrlejo (sp) reasonably quiet + the sand dunes are mgnificent

We are off to Cyprus in Sept - would recommend it

Been to Malta too - nice enough but a bit windy......

Not been to fuertaventra but didn't like tenerife (same area I think) as too commercial

Cheers

Mark

out of season Mallorca is not too pricy - North of the island Porto Pollensa and inland Pollensa are lovely if warm and chilled is what you want...

caber - 13/7/08 at 07:40 PM

South of France, Provence. Take Chunnel to Paris for nice meal and a night in a nice hotel, TGV south to Lyons, hire car and hang out in Arles, pretty relaxed lost to see and do, if you want the beach drive to Les Sainte Maries big beach all sandy nice swimming in warm water!

FL too far?

watsonpj - 13/7/08 at 07:52 PM

Try the Ile de Re (near la rochelle) in france not really hot but we went in september 2 years ago and had great weather. There are good beaches on one side of the island and great little ports like saint martin (where we stayed) on the other. Only a 15 min drive from the airport and also only about 20min into la rochelle.

but if you want it hotter I've had 3 holidays in cyprus also and never had a bad one, always good weather, beaches, food and friendly locals. Another good one is kefolonia

Pete

afj - 13/7/08 at 08:04 PM

kefalonia greece, cheap hot good food and friendly locals lovely

jacko - 13/7/08 at 08:07 PM

Clacton on sea or Skegness

eznfrank - 13/7/08 at 08:18 PM

I'd vote for Egypt as cheap and hot. One of the only holidays I've ever been on where I actually did sod all for a week but v.relaxing. As above though might be a bit much for the missus.

A few weeks back someone on here was talking about renting out their cottage in France (South of France I think??) We're off in Sept (not to his but another one) and I reckon weather should be fine, certainly much better than here!

Try to opt for somewhere not in Euro land due to the exchange rate. Turkey or Cyrprus fit this bill.

If you want something quiet with great beaches then I would recommend Thassos in the Greek islands. Goes against my first comment but hey ho!

Aaaah! Kefalonia! Lovely place. Spent a week in Fiskardo. Beautiful. Just avoid the Cockareza (sp!)- lamb kebab just not what most people would think of as a kebab (lung, heart and liver stuffed into intestines).... It has an unusual flavour.....
Otherwise I'd vote Croatia. Been there 3 times and going again this summer.....

graememk - 13/7/08 at 09:29 PM

cyprus is very nice this time of year

cyprus is now euro mate

Another vote for fuerteventura - been going for what must have been last 12 years. Great place for chillaxing wth some absolutely magnificent scenery.

Corralejo is where most people go and is a bit more lively than other places in the island, and at the other end of the island is Jandia which is a lot quieter but still active.

Need 2 know anything specific drop me a U2U.

splitrivet - 14/7/08 at 08:52 AM

Goa is brilliant but September may just be the end of monsoon season.
Cheers,
Bob

nick205 - 14/7/08 at 12:11 PM

Got to be the Isle of Wight....!

English speaking (sort of)
Same currency
By the sea
Not too hot (maybe wet)
Fly to Southampton and enjoy the short Ferry ride over
Good fishing
Nice castle
Quaint towns

And if you time it right you could come to a New Forest kit car meet on the way

simoto - 14/7/08 at 01:18 PM

Eiffel regoin of Germany has many plus points for sightseer/petrolhead or gourmet. Not too hot or far from home for the better half and a great base camp for exploring really spectacular parts of Europe.
Beer is served in dustbins and Holland a stones throw away too!
Appeals more than a beach to me anyway especially if you dont mind some driving as part of the trip.

A vote here for the South of France. September is a great time to go, can hit 30s regularly. You like boats, Cannes boat show is the second week in Sept - awesome, haven't missed it for 6 years
If you stay somewhere central (Frejus is a good spot) St Tropez isn't far away, neither is Nice. Port Grimaud is well worth a visit too. A few companies at La Baume campsite do 2 weeks for the price of 1 in September as it's their last 2 weeks of the season so a very cheap holiday can be had. Last time we stayed there it cost £500 for 2 weeks including car hire and flights to Nice - it don't get much cheaper!!

JoelP - 14/7/08 at 05:19 PM

i would like to say a big thankyou to everyone who has suggested somewhere, i appreciate it. Boat show as suggested by marcus sounds like a great idea, have a bloody scan on the 8th sept but can work round it!

Did florida last year, would be a bit beyond my means to go two years in a row!

I actually learned to sail on the isle of wight, at the medina valley centre, nice place!

Thanks again all!
