I rang my insurance company yesterday to transfer cover from the Cherokee to the Range Rover. They took another £68 off me but they also want a Tracker device fitting. I asked them for details and they pointed me to tracker.co.uk. They will not pay out on a claim until we have provided them with proof that the device is fitted.
I've had a look on the Tracker webby and the cheapest they do is the 'Monitor' at £474 plus another £125 for each year after for the subscription. Or £699 for the duration of ownership.
Is there a cheaper alternative?
It seems as though the insurance company have sort of increased the policy of at least £125p/a via a third party!!
It would be a shame to try to find another insurance company as the po9licy only started last month and I'd lose a whopping % of the premium. But it may be less than having to fork out for the Tracker!!

I would be looking for a different company to carry my policy TBH...

Trackers are quite expensive....and if someone steals my tintop I dont think I want it back....dont think I could live with a car that had been ragged by a scummy individual!

Find another insurer.

edit to add, just read the last line, mmmmmm they would hit you with fee's for cancellation but the whole idea seems ott to me.

Mobile phone from Tesco (£20)
Activate it with one of those web tracking websites. Wire up a charger to it so it never runs flat. Hide it somewhere in the car.

OK, not insurance approved, but you will be able to find where your car goes to.

You can do it without a mobile, you can buy GPRS sender units and install tracking software yourself, my company runs trailers, and we have looked into these in the past, several companies do live tracking from GPRS modules

And I recall some Traffic Officer saying how important is was to track a vehicle and find it within an hour or statistically, it would never be found. Good because it takes over an hour to get anywhere around here and none of the BiBmobiles have the tracker locators fitted....!

balidey, that sort of defeats the object. I don't want a tracker and if the Rangey gets stolen, I don't want it back!! I just want to be able to insure it without having to sell my sons kidneys...

buy a cheap mobile phone and hide it somewhere apparently you can track these to within 100 yards, Or tie some thieving little bastxxd to the bumper cos the cops will be watching him. Seriously though look at another insurance company,. the immobiliser fitted should be the defining reason
