Need a bit of help here - I've got a BMW 320d E90 and have just had it serviced by a local garage who I know quite well. Problem is, despite a
service manual which clearly says how to do it, they couldn't work out how to reset the computer to say it's been done. It's only an
oil change and check brake fluid (2 years 18000 miles) and I can find those two sections in the computer. You're supposed to navigate to the
item you want to reset and press and hold the stalk end button for 10 seconds and it shows as serviced. But that didn't work. So we got out the
OBD computer which is also supposed to work, he had the right key for the model and year, but what do you know - it won't talk to it. We managed
to get fault codes up but nothing else, and the car wouldn't take instructions.
Does anyone out there have experience with this model or know a mate who does? Does anyone know how to reset the service computer? If I can't
fin out I'll have to take it in to BMW who will charge an arm and a leg to put right what they made wrong in the first place...

Same as the BMW Mini & Rover 75 you can reset it by joining 2 pins on the EOBD socket for a specified time internal after which you have to
switch off and allow sufficient time for the BCU to go into sleep mode. Sometimes it takes a couple of attempts.

For future reference ive found www.BMWLand.co.uk to be a great forum for our cars.
They listthe resetting procedure for the E46 (my model) which can be done on the dash.
Out of interest what oil did they use. Im rather shocked by how expensive the recommended BMW longlife oil is. last service (indy) used Total 9000
5W40 fully synthetic, BMW quoted £15 per litre, car takes 5.5 litres. Im doing mine next service myself and having to save up! Ive already cleaned EGR
and breather. Looking into de-flapping the inlet manifold (flaps prone to breaking, being ingested by engine and then wrecking it!).
