Going to look at a car, just checked the details of it on dvla and everything seems good apart from the fact that its dark metallic green and dvla say its white !

Did a car check on it for £3.99 and that says the same, but it also says the vehicle hasn't had a colour change in its lifetime...the vin number also matches the details for the car

What do we do ?? could dvla have made a boo boo ?
If i can find a kind police person to do a pnc check will this just check the dvla details ???

Anyone got any recommendations ?
Car seems quite nice from the pics and its the right sort of price etc for year and spec, its £2000 so not big bucks but it is all we can afford.

I guess the obvious thing would be to ask the seller if he's painted it.

Then check to see if he has painted it. (If you don't know how to do this then just ask, I'm sure you will get some great pointers on here, inc off me)

You could check with the Police to see if it's stolen.

How do i go about getting some sort of police check ??
I can have a good look to see if its had a respray but still curious as to whether dvla could have stuffed it up somewhere !

maybe been painted, and not declared in the logbook

maybe check the paintcode on the plate on the car, and see if its for a white or dark green paint

Unless it is an old car, not many people change colour. Look under the bonnet and trim to check. Its hard to hide a colour change unless done very carefully.

Otherwise its a ringer.

I think u really need to ask yourself if Im questioning the facts is it something I should even be considering ?? after all there is an abundance of second hand cars out there it a buyers market.

I had a car like that color did'nt match the reg it turned out that the garage , main dealer mixed up the docs when they first registered it , i left it to them to sort it out when i bought another new car from them , the car was blue but docs said green , it had been like that for three years .

The green car had what should have been my reg number on it and i had his .

How old is the car your thinking of buying?

I work @ a honda dealership and I remember that a customer of ours complained that the dvla had registered the vehicle as the wrong colour, this was their mistake and we took the vehicle as PX as this wasn't an issue. If you do a hpi check on the vehicle there should be an indemnity that should anything go wrong they will be liable.

In short I think as long as you do all the checks you can, HPI, DVLA, have a good look around the car under the bonnet in the boot and lift up slightly the rubber seals around the windows and check for any powder/over spray etc. If you have done all that then it's probably ok.

Another easy place to check for colour sifference is in the boot if the spare wheel is stored there.

Got the full history, guy selling it works for landrover, has known and serviced the car since new, always been like that apparently, he is going to look into it, if he can sort it then should be ok, if not then im not sure.
Might see if i can get someone to check police data as everything else is spot on.

If it is all genuine, what happens if you get pulled over because your cars the wrong colour ???

Any police people on here that could check a reg number for me on their computer ??

Wrong details shout out ringer
Even if it is genuine it will look iffy when you go to sell it even if you sort it out with the DVLC.
