Sorry to post this here, but the Subaru list was no help.
The key switch in the '80 Subaru Brat I use to push/pull parts cars around got stuck in the ON position, so I'm trying to replace it with a
toggle switch for ignition and a push button for starting.
Problem is, the wire colors don't match those in the service manual!
I've found two that make the starter turn, but how do I figure out which ones to connect to the toggle switch for ignition?
What I have (that went to the old switch) are:
black with yellow stripe
black
blue
blue with white stripe
white with black stripe
As I said before, though, these aren't the colors shown in the manual, so using that as a reference isn't an option.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Have a look further along the process, see what colour they are to the solenoid and coil and follow them back.
yours, Pete.
just try random ones, car thieves do it sucessfully all day long!

That sounds alright for the basic setup. You can get single function key switches if you want a bit of security.

I just let the right front tire go flat between uses - that'll keep a thief from going too far!
Plus, the carb evaporates dry, so without a little gas squirter, the engine won't start, either.
