Dodgy logbook..........
clairetoo - 20/8/08 at 11:40 AM

I just popped home from work to pick something up , and there on the mat is the post.....so I open it and find I`ve changed my name and bought a Renault Megane diesel
So it seems some git has used my adress to register his car to so as to avoid speeding tickets and paying road tax etc.
Who should I send this on to , to be sure I dont get any future problems , and to make sure the git gets sorted out

saigonij - 20/8/08 at 11:46 AM

ring the DVLA and police.

Write to them too so its written documentation.

zilspeed - 20/8/08 at 11:48 AM

Get yourself straight down to the local nick and make them record the time and date of you having reported this to them.

02GF74 - 20/8/08 at 11:54 AM

It may be a genuine mistake, I mean who would in their right mind by a Megane diesel?!?!?!

Ben_Copeland - 20/8/08 at 11:59 AM

At least its not in your name! get it sorted before the fines start rolling in.

^^Salami technique.Remember that film where a bank clerk skimmed only a cent off hundreds and thousands of accounts and no one batted an eyelid? Stands to reason if you steal a pile of poo like a Megane no one will bother that much!

Humbug - 20/8/08 at 12:18 PM

If you go to the police you'll probably be done for opening someone else's post!

Hope you get it sorted

vinny1275 - 20/8/08 at 12:23 PM

it might be a genuine mistake with the address. my last car was registered (by the dealers) at 32 mystreet instead of 3. Didnt' manage to confuse the postmen as the numbers only go up to 12. There really might be someone on your street who's bought a diesel megane - I mean some people put motorbike engines in cars! It takes all sorts....

Cubby - 20/8/08 at 12:23 PM

I hate animals too !!!

Oops misread it thought said doggy logbook !!!

try to get sorted ASAP before it results in more grief for you !

saigonij - 20/8/08 at 12:24 PM

maybe its a neighbour? same postcode, simular house number?

e.g. 27 instead of 22?

wilkingj - 20/8/08 at 12:31 PM

Do it by Phone, and then Confirm everything in writing, and KEEP copies of everything, dates of posting, send it all recorded delivery as well.
Note ALL phone calls, dates and time, and names of people spoken to.

At the moment, this is not being a problem.
However, if it turns difficult, you will be glad of the few minutes spent recording it all.

You have done nothing wrong... but having to prove you didnt could cause you imense grief proving its not your problem.

Its probably just a typo, and a genuine mistake. However, if its someone trying to avoid detection, YOU will get a lot of grief.

Take care and protect yourself. If its a mistake, then you have only lost a little time, as opposed to a LOT of hair

Pop the car details in here...
http://www.askmid.com/askmid.aspx
and it will tell you if the car is insured.
Then pop the details in here.....
http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/application;JSESSIONID_EvlPortalApp=LsPHQDRlTW1Tm6qkyV0F1pjYNhTZVDJj21fpjxRYl16Tt1G5qyLk!509171432!-1822 535960?origin=vnav_bar.jsp&event=bea.portal.framework.internal.refresh&pageid=Vehicle+Enquiry
and it will tell you if the vehicle is taxed.
If it checks out OK then you can have a walk around the local streets (not at night!) and see if you can find the car.
Also try http://www.192.com/ to see if there any matches for that name....
HTH!!

You don't live anywhere near
63B CORT CRESCENT LEICESTER LEICESTERSHIRE LE3 1QJ
do you???

bob - 20/8/08 at 01:00 PM

Claire

Have a look out on the street tonight when everyones back from work, could be a post code error at DVLA.

Not that many meganes about so could be parked down the road.

I often get mail to my address for someone up the road from me, sorted now and luckilly nothing important but it can happen.

JoelP - 20/8/08 at 04:50 PM

you're meant to make up an address with the number off the top of the street when you do that

Theres no risk to you clair, the car is nowt to do with you. Doesnt matter if fines and points turn up, send them back marked 'never lived here'.

london!

clairetoo - 20/8/08 at 07:06 PM

I tried 192.com and BINGO! There is a Phillip D Perkins with the same post-code , so all I have to do now is have a look round for a green Megane - and knock on the door of whichever house it's parked in front of
