Remember our paypal dispute ?
Jon Ison - 25/8/08 at 08:34 AM

Well the buyer still as the goods and his money but persistence with paypal as at last paid off. (dispute started in May)

We could have given up a thousand times but refused to so here is the last correspondence from them.....

Reporting them to the FSO seemed to spur them on a little.....

"however, as a value of your custom and a one off gesture, I
> have requested for a courtesy credit of £27.98 GBP to be credited to you.
> Please allow up to 72 hrs for this request to be completed."

Well done, with the evidence you had I don't see how paypal held out so long. It would point to an automatic 'refund on complaint' rather than any form of investigation.

Danozeman - 25/8/08 at 08:38 AM

Hahaha good man. You gonna try for the interest lost aswell??

Glad you beat them..

Jon Ison - 25/8/08 at 08:45 AM

TBH they take the pee,

We have given them evidence that would stand up anywhere, proof of collection, tracking to point of delivery and even recipients signature on delivery at 15.41 on the 6th May, yet they still say its not enough but have relented with a "gesture"

The buyer must be peeing himself, has goods and his money, had paypal not been so quick to reverse the deal then maybe they would not be £30 out of pocket as I guess by now they don't want to go asking the buyer for the money they given him back ? dunno but one thing for sure paypal definitely work on the "wear em down and they will give up theory" well don't give up, that's what they rely on.

That's the end of the road for us on this one but I still feel cheated, the buyer got away with it, its paypal that have stood the loss in the end.

Peteff - 25/8/08 at 08:50 AM

According to the threads on moneysaving expert paypal never admit their mistakes but that is the next best thing.

02GF74 - 25/8/08 at 08:51 AM

not quite - paypal did not make the loss, it is us punters who pay paypal feels that pay for this.

good you stuck it out - thievinig swines they be - and yes, it is taking the pi66 - a one of gesture indeed.

so if it happens again, will they not pay?

defo worth complaining about this 'one of gesture' stuff - you should have had your money back months ago...

ggrrrr.........

Paul TigerB6 - 25/8/08 at 09:37 AM

As above - the fact that they call it a "gesture" still stinks!! I hope you reply to them and ask them what they intend to be about the buyer who has now technically stolen from them. Paypal should be pursuing this guy through the courts if necessary, and publicising it to hopefully prevent the thieving scum using ebay / paypal to steal.

Glad you got your money back anyway Jon

The problem with all this sort of thing is that it takes a ridiculous amount of time/email/phone calls etc to actually force them to cough up - economoically it actually makes more sense to "write it off" which of course is what they rely on - Well Done Jon for pursuing it to the bitter end, no doubt at much cost in time effort & raised blood pressure. Unfortunately if we don't pursue this sort of thing it will become even more widespread - what I find really annoying is that Paypal don't do anything to pursue the cretins that do this sort of thing & don't stop the multiple accounts at the same address, I really can't see that it is so hard to stop this.

MikeR - 25/8/08 at 10:52 AM

daft question - does the information you have stand up in a court of law?

Reading between the lines if the proof of delivery you had wasn't enough legally, it would make sense for paypal to take the action they have. If they didn't they'd end up out of pocket. By siding with the customer, they're forcing traders to use their service - thus keeping themselves in business.

Of course the implication is simple, no one needs to pay for anything and paypal go bust!!!

Suppose the other argument is this is too small an amount for paypal to consider worth bothering with, unless its to make a public gesture. The lawyers feeds for the "hi, we've got this issue" probably are 5 times the profit they'd make on a single transaction.

Well done that man! Now ask for for the lost interest and bill them for your time at £80 per hour.

martyn_16v - 25/8/08 at 03:18 PM

Aye, I'd be tempted to say you've gone this far, don't give up now. They've made such a colossal arse of the situation, and taken sooooooo long, that a simple refund wouldn't cut it for me, especially without even the slightest attempt at an apology. They could have just given you your money back months ago, by now I'd be wanting something more.

Good on you! You've got your money back, so nothing to loose now - dragging them over the coals to get more could just be a hobby for your free time
