Any vw experts in the house ?

Iv been asked by a mate to totaly wire his mk1 golf track car.

Engine is the late 2.0l 16v abf lump with Tb's and omex managment.

I am strugling with the cps. Its the one that bolts onto the back of the crank.

It has a 3 pin conector.

Question is, is it a Vr sensor or a Hall effect sensor ?

Omex have said its a Vr but I cant get a signal from it. The web is split on the subject, some saying one way some another.

Its making my head hurt. I just want to get it done so I can work on mine.

Going to get a sheet of ally in the morning to make the tunnel top and sides.

Three pin suggests Hall effect. Two would be more likely to be VR. You also need to configure the jumper on JP1 for Hall effect.

Yep thats what I was thinking.

But omex say the third pin is just the sheild, as it has a fly lead connection so it goes all the way to the sensor.

This is suported by some posts on the vw vortex forums.

I still think its a hall effect .

Yep I know its going to need a jumper for the Hall sensor. That will be a pain as they got lost in the post .

More than you ever need to know about the hall effect
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall_effect

Capsule summary, you can detect a magnet moving past a semiconductor.
