Problems with virgin media
JoelP - 8/9/08 at 12:11 PM

i got a sky+ box a few months back and finally got round to cancelling virgin tv today, however, they want the old tv box back. Thats sadly a good few feet down the landfill by now. Anyone have a copy of VM terms and conditions around to see if it mentions a penalty for this henious act? Or know how much they are likely to moan? Im thinking of cancelling the DD in advance in case they try anything.

Cheers!

The box is theirs. You didn't buy it. It was rented. You shouldn't have thrown their box away. They may charge you for destroying their stuff, which I suppose is only fair.

ebay

Yup. You never actually own the box. Same is true of various things including credit cards and some mobile phones....
Doesn't stop people selling them on Ebay....

I've got an old box, It's not the V+ one.

Any use to you Joel?

Edited to say (it may be chipped, can't remember)

If its a standard box, then yes you rent it. If you had v+ then according to them you actually buy it. It was mentioned that they only have a 1 yr warranty but if you threaten to disconnect they sometimes swap them for free.

Yep, I got stung a few years back with a bill for £150, even though I posted it back.

Trouble was I couldn't prove it. They were TeleWest at the time, but still the same outfit.

My only advice is if you do find a replacement make sure you get proof of postage, or send recorded delivery.

hilariously, i just got a call off sky telling me that since i own my box i should take out product cover on it! No thanks i said; but how annoying, i own one and they want money to maintain it, and i dont own the other but they want money cos i chucked it! I see a trend forming, it all revolves around money leaving my pocket...
