Typically British i'd say - there have been articles about reasons for calling ambulances and fire engines for stupid reasons too!! Laughable when you read them - but not when you REALLY need them quickly

Irish I'd have thought

omega 24 v6 - 15/9/08 at 02:36 PM

No not typicallu scottish but defineatly needs a good kick up the arse IMHO what a waster. Her name and piccy should be published so she can be ridiculed in the street FFS.
Again NOT TYPICALLY any nationality.

You can't hang someone for being ignorant. You forget that most people don't use their brain. 999 is the phone number for the police in most people's minds so they use it for all contact with the police. They just don't realise it is for emergencies only.

Except Irish...

Humbug - 15/9/08 at 03:17 PM

Slightly O/T, but I think some people dial 999 for the police when they just have an enquiry, because it's almost impossible to speak to the police otherwise. I remember a few years ago wanting to know at what age children could legally be left on their own - not an emergency, but the police seemed like a good starting point, but the local police station has been closed and there ws no published number apart from 999 to get in touch with the police. Amazingly, we recently got a parish council newsletter with not only a police landline contact number but also local coppers/ASBOs (or whatever they are called) mobile numbers!

Scotch rather than Irish, I'd say

John

...but you can prosecute them: ignorance is no defence

Not likely, just one of those who "can't cope", as one of my friends says. That's a polite way of saying dumb as a post.

From Wikipedia-

"In 1965, the historian A. J. P. Taylor, wrote: "Some inhabitants of Scotland now call themselves Scots and their affairs Scottish. They are entitled to do so. The English word for both is Scotch, just as we call les français the French and Deutschland Germany. Being English, I use it.[3] Preface to English History 1914–1945"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_(adjective)

John (England, BTW)

I think we don't have the 999 problem here.....

Cause here is the number 112

Macbeast - 15/9/08 at 07:49 PM

Going by the examples quoted, it's typically female, not typically Scottish
