My clio (1999 T Reg 1.2) needed a new back box as the existing one is falling to bits. As its the orriginal, the exhaust back box has one pipe that runs all the way to the front of the car (no joins etc)

The replacement item I bought from a motor factors has about 2 foot of pipe that then opens up so it slides over the existing pipe under the car.

So, I take it I need to cut the exhaust pipe to release it, but how do I cut through it? Fancies doing it myself, but a hack saw will not allow movement of the blade as the chasis sits either side?

Any locost ways or do i need an angle grinder?

just release the system from hanging bands or clips and pull down carefully to allow cutting with saw.Angle grinder with 1mm disc will do it in seconds

when i was dismantling the beemer i used a hacksaw to get mine off, can be very awkward at points but i just about had enough room to get it all off. I dont know how much room you have.

Cant you undo the joint at the manifold and drop the exhaust to give a bit a bit more room? If there a flexi bit in the exhaust aswell u might be able to just unhook the mounting rubbers and it will sag enough to hacksaw it.

Failing all this then angry grinder

Their exhausts can be a pain in the A**E. I think there are way to many different types. Good luck!!!

never thought that unhanging the back box will naturally allow the pipe to drop at an angle.

do not have an angle grinder!!!

Being a T reg, the 1 piece factory fitted exhaust will have been replaced by a 2 piece one at some point. The previous person should have already cut the pipe at the required length for you.

I used and angry grinder for most of the removal of my exhaust and a hacksaw for the rest.

On the Clio my mate had the exhaust ran over the back axle so he couldn't remove it without removing the axle. So he cut it off and had no end of trouble with the joint keep working loose, tried sleeves and all sorts. Common problem I think.
