Is Parker's guide usually accurate or do people always add 25% on top on the principal that everyone will just take it back off again?
I'm trying to buy a second hand car but everyone is charging crazy money.
e.g. a car which Parkers says should be £3700 (taking into account it's independant dealer) is on at £4495. Are the seriously going to take off
£700???
You would have thought everyone would just put their price £5 below Parkers?!?!?
On a slightly related point do you reckon there are more dodgey cars being toshed and flogged by independant dealers or "private"
sales?!?!?! Do the independant dealers just know how to make problems disappear for the test drive?!?!?

I always find you can take the parkers price and add a couple of hundred quid. Then maybe a bit more if u want to take it off again.
YOu need glass's guide or summit for more accurate price. I find ebay is good for what vehicles are worth. U can see what theyr actually
selling for.

you are right though they are only worth what you can sell them for and ebay / auto trader is a good indication if you can find the exact car/spec you
are looking for

Glass guide is the trade guide - ie the real price. If a garage goes under this you've done well. You shouldn't be able to get this guide.

The arse as dropped out of the used and new car market so much at the moment that no guide can predict what anything is worth, look at Owley for
instance, very nice motor around 2.5k under parkers, probably around glases trade in which is normally an insult, cant shift it, or couldn't.
ebay as above, that gives a true reflection of what people are prepared to pay not what someone thinks people will pay.
Sometimes when looking for a particular model and age of car it can be frustrating to find that all or most of the examples are in the hands of
'traders'.
I find it very difficult to imagine the circumstances under which I would buy from a 'trader'.
Traders exist on the difference between what they buy for and what they sell for. They buy at the very lowest possible price and sell at the very
highest. Dealing with them sounds like a very bad idea, and it is.
First questions to ask when ringing a private seller
Is it your car? Is it registered in your name at your address? If no to either then ring off.
Main thing I have found when looking for a particular car is, try to put yourself in a position where you can wait til the right car at the right
price comes along. It will, eventually
