Hi All,
I just want to make you all aware of the inhumane Chinease Turtle trade by Tesco's.
http://www.tortoisetrust.org/activities/tesco.html
I've not shopped or bought anything in Tescos for the last year - I found out from my Tortoise trust letter this month that they still have no
intention of stopping this trade.
I just hope that at least one of you guys have a tortoise or turtle and feel as strongly as I do, enough to stop shopping with Tesco.
Thanks for reading.
Jon
As a nation and as a race, the Chinese have a great deal to answer for, especially in their treatment of animals.

Whilst originally aimed at paedophiles, who go to the far east to procure under age victims for their perverse desires, didn't Tony Blair state
that English law now applied to British citizens anywhere in the world?
Surely this could be applied to these money grubbing greedy gits.

Sorry but Tesco is the nearest, cheapest supermarket to us.
So, I will be shopping there until it gets cheaper some where nearer...
There is tons of this stuff going all over the world and I don't think the finger can be single pointed at Tesco.
Having been to China it is a totally different culture, in the markets you find chickens, bags of frogs, buckets of fish, eels. Skewered insects, grubs, birds, starfish, squid. Here we cook live crabs, lobsters, shellfish, factory farm animals which have a miserable life then kill them. Are we any better?
Tesco are one of the most brutal, cut-throat operations I've ever dealt with - they will do ANYTHING to make money and screw over the
opposition.
Witness their IT department in Welwyn Garden City, replaced by dirt-cheap Indian contractors, flown into the UK on dodgy work permits and dossing 10
to a house in Welwyn and Stevenage.
I've nothing against these guys personally, but they are basically being brought over here as indentured workers (they can only work for
Tesco's and are banned from seeking work elsewhere) and massively undercutting UK and EU nationals.

That's just called subcontracting, and if you go to any OPEC country, you'll find lots of british expats doing exactly the same thing working as engineers, project managers and commercial managers.

The sale of live turtles in China, however, can be pointed at Tesco.
They're all as bad as each other

A valid reason for boycotting Tesco is the way they appear to be able to steam roller through planning permission for enormous developments in
totally unsuitable locations against even the most organised mass local opposition.
Something smaell of fish and it ain't the Tesco fish counter.
A new word has entered the english language to describe it Tescopoly
Ive been to a Chinese restaurant where turtles and tortoises were avalable for the hungry patron to pick from. Also seen many other things that we
would deem as not acceptable. i find it hard to decide if this is wrong or not. They are a different culture.
I had some Chinese visitors over here once. Treat them to a full English. They wouldnt eat the black pudding, something we find normal. This made me
reaslise that things they find normal but we are horrified at shouldnt be shunned. It just highlights the cultural diversity that exists in the world
and is being better understood since the advent of TV and internet.
Personally i was shocked to see the live Tortoises. They were more shocked when i told them why and explained how much it would cost to buy one as a
pet in UK. Luckily they were priced such that the normal patrons couldnt afford them. Ive had turtle soup and to be quite honest its not worth trying
twice, its not awful but i like a good slab of meat when im having a meal, nota bowl of shell with some hard to find bits on.
Snake wine isnt too great either.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the actual sale of these turtles, it's the inhumane treatment of the turtles. They're kept in
very poor conditions and inhumanely executed. If they were kept in good conditions and humanely executed then there wouldn't be any issue. Most
of us eat meat.
Personally I'd eat anything with a face, but I wouldn't want it to suffer prior to my consumption.
