The competitor Vodafone McLaren Mercedes will appear before the Steward’s panel before the International Court of Appeal in a hearing in Paris on October 27th.

The International Court of Appeal will be presided over by Mr Philippe NARMINO (Monaco), elected President, and composed of Mr Xavier CONESA (Spain), Mr Harry DUIJM (Netherlands), Mr Thierry JULLIARD (Switzerland) and Mr Erich SEDELMAYER (Austria).


Article 16.3 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations provides as follows: Any competitor using additional facial hair to use an aerodynamic advantage, whilst the visor is slightly open, will be brought before the FIA tribunal.


The stewards may impose any one of three penalties on any driver involved in an Incident:

a) A drive-through penalty. The driver must enter the pit lane and re-join the race without stopping.

b) A ten second time penalty. The driver must enter the pit lane, stop at his pit for at least ten seconds and then re-join the race.

c) a drop of ten grid positions at the driver’s next Event.

Surely there should be a option (d) to enter the pit lane, hop out and take a quick shave before re-joining the race.

I do hope the FIA dont read this forum (or Pistonheads)!!! They'll probably bring in that rule retrospectively and whack Lewis for it for the China "race" (procession).

Jenson Button has loads of facial hair. Maybe hes not doing so well, because he forgot to leave the visor open...

By the way, have you ever managed to keep a visor "slightly Open" over 90MPH?? Let me tell you, it doesnt work!

Actually, Yes, since you ask The visor stays where it is but the whole helmet starts to lift.
