OT - window trickle vent fitting
nick205 - 24/10/08 at 09:51 PM

Any builders or window fitters about?

We had uPVC windows fitted 2-3 years back and at the time only the bathroom window was fitted with a trickle vent.

I'd like to have vents on the bedroom windows (and possibly all the windows).

Looking at the one on the bathroom window it seems as simple as drilling a few holes in the frame (avoiding the glass) and fitting something like this...

Can anyone see any problems or advise on what size of vent should be fitted?

Cheers
Nick

I carry out property maintenance and I often fit them to plastic and wooden windows. I usually router out a slot before I fit the window, as it's sometimes difficult in situ due to the lack of space. By all means drill a series of holes then clean them up with saw. Size wise it depends on the size of the window but they are normally about 350mm long. If in doubt ask a local double glazing firm they can give you advice and supply the correct bits.

Do the windows open? You should fit them in the main outer frame not the inner opening sections but it is just a matter of making holes and fitting the vent. There may be some steel reinforcing inside the box section depending on the window specs. They are noisy in direct wind.

Cheers Guys - 400mm vents ordered and drill being sharpened.

Pete - no space in frame so will have to go in window as per existing bathroom window.

Now have to make sure I don't hit the glass...!
