Scam. Should i send to Ebay?
donut - 1/11/08 at 05:15 PM

Found a Cobra for £2900 on gumtree and enquired as i thought it was a typo and thought i had better tell the owner. Received this reply which i'm sure is a scam but ebay seem so heavily involved but that may be a scam too. Should i report it?

Hello,

I would first like to thank you for your email and I have to tell you that the Cobra Replica I'm selling is in excellent condition, no damage, no engine problems, garage kept, HPI clear (no finance,no accidents) and it will come with all the needed documents!
I am selling this car for £2900 including delivery anywhere in the UK. The price is so low because I need some cash as soon as possible for a family emergency. I also have to tell you that I'm currently out of town with some major problems so pick up isn't an option (that's why I'm offering free delivery). Sorry about that... Hope you will understand... However, before any delivery can be done I want to be sure that we do this transaction in the safest mode possible for both of us. I recommend we do the transaction using eBay.co.uk because it's a reliable market place and I'm a very experienced seller there. We'll do the transaction using the eBay' Vehicle Purchase Protection Program offered by them. eBay will act as a 3rd party between you -as the buyer- and me -as the seller- so we can be both protected. This way you'll have a chance to view and test the car before any money will be given to me;
If you want to buy this Cobra Replica email me back with your full name and address to start the official procedure on eBay. Once the requested details will be provided, eBay will contact you with ALL the info regarding delivery, purchase protection (free eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection offered), and refund policy so please provide your details before any other questions. You will find 90% of answers in the info eBay will send you. Will wait to hear from you.
Thank you!

PS: As I mentioned earlier I'm a very experienced seller on eBay... You can check my eBay ID so you can see my feedback... I'm bodgeno1 on eBay. Here is a link where you can see my feedback:

Think its a well known scan as the ebay vehcle protection they reffer to is non existant

Yup scam.

Either a hacked ebay account or just some random one he chose.

I doubt he'll use eBay, maybe he has a paypal account with a similar name?

anyone could post a link to anyone's ebay feedback page. i'm worried you still need to ask if this is a scam

Cheers, thought so!!

Contact the seller via the ebay link and ask him a question, i reckon you'll get a surprised "what-you-on-about-willis" response.

blakep82 - 1/11/08 at 05:30 PM

^ nooo, email the original guy back, telling him you want to contact him through ebay to check out he is this guy. see what excuses he tries to give

the response won't be anything too exciting right enough, i just want to know what he says

The user name is in the post, it's obviously not from him though so all you will do is p!ss off an innocent party. Where is the fun in that? You are obviously not going to spend that much money without visual confirmation of the condition of the vehicle anyway.
His account has not been used in the last 90 days so it has probably been hijacked.

lody lordy, that scam is so old it was first used to cheat pharoah ramses III out of a herd of racing camels.

"If you want to buy this Cobra Replica email me back with your "

Cut n paste text inserting the item for sale. Jezz didn't even properly try to hide it being a scam.

Post a link to the boat, according to my search he has no items and has not been active for more than 90 days. The Cobra is for sale on Gumtree not ebay and claims to be from him. There is a big banner across the top of the Gumtree page saying do not part with money without seeing the goods, wise advice it sounds like.

Above is the item number, don't know how to do the Ebay links. Cheers Ray
