F1 - When was last time champ didn't make the podium?
craig1410 - 2/11/08 at 11:11 PM

Hi,
No F1 politics here, just a simple question.

I can't remember the eventual champion not being on the podium of the race in which he became champ. Anyone know when this last happened?

Cheers,
Craig.

Schumacher managed it when he wiped out his only opposition after he broke his own car in 1994!!!!!

I remember Shumacher standing by the side of the track celebrating having taken Hill out and stopping Hill from winning. He was therefore stood by the side of the track and not on the podium when he won that championship. Probably 95 from memory?

Schumacher did it by taking out Demon Hell in Australia and then retiring.

Prost at Suzuka around 1990. Crashed with Senna. Senna later disqualified for cutting across pitlane exit to overtake.

Hi,

Yeah who could forget the 1994 season...

I think I may have answered my own question though and it wasn't as long ago as 1994. If the stats on f1-facts.com are correct then 2003 saw Schumie take the DWC at the last race by scoring one point.

Cheers,
Craig.

2003 - M Schumacher - Japan

He need a single point to clinch the title from Raikkonen, just managed it with an eighth place finish (Raikkonen needed to win but came second, Barrichello won the race securing the title for Schumacher)
