Insurance ~ NCD 'debate' - Help!!!!

Hi All

I'm trying to sort out my NCD from my insurer, having had my car stolen. They told me that I'd lose 2 years NCD for the claim which is fine. However, as a result of their rules it would seem that I'm set to lose 4 years. Have a read of the correspondence below and let me know what you think. It’s quite long – sorry! Company name changed at this stage.

Hello Sa

Thank you for your note. How can that be? I moved to Megacover with 6
years NCD, and added one claim free year before my car was unfortunately
stolen. I understand that you do not offer a further discount beyond 5
years, but surely 6+1-2= 5? Like I say, I do understand the position in
terms of the discount profile that you employ, but this will affect my
premium on my new car (which you are apparently unable to cover) and hence
it seems like you are arguing against the laws of arithmetic.

I'd be grateful if you could amend the request for paperwork. If this is
not possible, I'd be grateful if a supervisor could call me on 07**********

Many thanks

Tim C

Dear Mr Cheney

Thank you for your e-mail.

Due to our maximum NCD being 5 years and the claim on your policy it has been reduced to 3 years No Claims Discount.
The maximum No Claims Discount we offer is 5 years, therefore you are not given any further discount for providing more than 5 years No Claims Discount.

Kind Regards

G

Dear G

So, let me just be clear on this. Let's consider a scenario where I take out insurance with Megacover and provide a NCD certificate from my previous insurer that states that I have been 6 years claim free. One year later, having found insurance that is cheaper than my Megacover renewal, I request a proof of No Claims from yourself. I am told that you can only provide proof of up to 5 years no claims. Hence, in essence I lose one year's no claims the moment that I insure myself with Megacover. This is utterly ridiculous.

I am not even looking to reap the benefits of my No Claims Discount with yourselves. You seemingly cannot offer me insurance on a BMW Alpina, and hence I am taking my business elsewhere. I am merely only asking you to properly represent the no claims that discount that I have earned i.e. 7 years with 2 years lost for the theft of my car.

If I had known that this was your stance, I would never have insured with you in the first place. Can someone please call me at your convenience? Today.

Many thanks

Tim C

they are being idiots, you want proof of the number of years you have had no claims, there internal policy regarding maximum discounts is irelivant. I'd call up and go bananas - insist to speak to a manager, and sort it with someone who has half a brain.

Good look at 1pm on xmas eve...

Whilst 100% empathetic with your position, I don't think you will win the argument! They have worded this to you poorly in the first place. What the should have said is that you would loose two years from the maximum NCD that they recognise!

What they are really saying is, bend over, assume the position and get ready to receive a proper shafting!

Hi
I had exactly this scenario, where I took full no claims discount. Well over 10 years.
anc changed to a company that only needed 5 year to get max no claims.
The following year they put the insurance up to a ridiculous amount. So I asked for my proof of no claims.
They sent me 5 years
I said " but I came to you with 10+"
they said 5 years is our max.
So when I went to another company that needed 7 years proof I was fuged..
Bstds

I eventually went back to my original company and got the proof that way

Actually no, I'm like a boy in a toy shop. However, you'll be disapponted to hear that the Mondeo doesn't feature!

In other news, after 4 e-mails, one conversation with an opearator and one with a Team Leader, it was established that I took out cover before the insurer changed their rules. Hence - I keep my 5 years NCB. Thanks Megacover - whoever you are!
