Road signing defects

Anyone who has not read this would be well to have a flick through!

This mans efforts are to be highly commended!

It makes you wonder what the condition of the rest of the signs are across the UK!!!

might be worth checking then if you get caught whether the signs were up to spec, then you have them over a barrel if they're not

I dunno. I'd be just tempted to take it to a barrister (do you still call them that?) and not do all the work reading the crap...

Outstanding effort on that gents part and one can only hope the authorities concerned take heed, act and learn.

Particularly interesting to me as these are pieces of road I use fairly regularly too.

But look what the Govt are trying to impose on us now.

Mandatory vehicle speed limiters

Not sure how I will be able to retro fit this on any of my cars. So I would imagine they will all need to be scrapped.

All road signs in the UK (and road markings) must comply with the TSRGD (Traffic Sign Regulations and General Directions)

One of the girls in our office had a parking ticket cancelled because there were not enough signs.

And by pouring over the standards (I was redesigning the A13 at the time) I got me mum off a fine for just slipping into a bus lane.

The whiteline was not applied properly, so the width varied more than 10%.

As such it didn't comply with the big book of big words and they had no option but to give up.

Have just had a quick read of the other post. He is very thorough.
Scarily enough, I used to work in Winchester for Atkins, who manage the highways for Hampshire CC.

Was a few years ago now but HCC are a nightmare to deal with.

Yup. It's sure annoying when they put up speed cameras without bothering to tell people what the speed limit is.

It appears on that youtube video that they'd deliberately put them at the end of the roads (great!!) as you were coming up towards a round-about and probably too busy to see a speed sign (or am I cynical ).....

I was impressed when driving through France last year - there aren't that many fixed cameras, but every one has an ENORMOUS sign a few hundred metres in front of it. This sign says that there's a camera ahead, and tells you what speed you should be doing. In one location there were even rumble strips next to the sign! The cameras are grey and, although not hidden, are quite hard to see. However you do get the very clear warning, and you know that you will reach the camera in the next few hundred metres. Anyone who gets a ticket from speeding past a fixed camera in France needs to get his eyes checked - or his brain...

However, I can't say the same for the French mobile cameras... they display smaller signs, but their traffic police are renowned for being sneaky about the way they deploy their signs and cameras.

Yeah, i think thats the one trick they did mis in the uk with the whole 'make cameras visable' was they should have slaped a repeater on the back of the actaul camera, on the orange reflecty.
