Wish us luck part 2

Just made a life changing decision.

A while ago my Mrs started her own business selling cooker hoods online eBay mostly.

I obviously helped whilst still holding down a full time job, we started from home, then home and a small lock up, we are now viewing larger premiss's.

Doors seem to open once your foot is inside the 1st door, well we cant cope anymore and I am now working my notice and we are both going full time.

The isonblade as been sat in garage untouched for months with 1/2 a busa install completed, Mrs has not rode her horse in months and Becky our 6 year old is missing out on both of us as we are her.

So, its all systems go, if the business does not grow anymore we will be fine but with more time to put into it and more time to put into our own interests we are going for it we are hoping it will continue to grow and get our life back at the same time.

Employed all my life till now, bit scary..........

Perhaps there's a chance to negotiate a voluntary redundancy deal with your current employer?

which one his current full time or part time employer?

Also, I thought when you negotiate voluntary redundancy with your wife it generally ends up with you losing out both time and money.

Dump the blade engine, hitch up the horse and you can do Amish track days together.

LOL!!!!!

The very best of luck Jon, going self employed in this climate is a brave move, but one that I'm certain you'll make a success of. The husband / wife partnership can be very successful, as you both understand the workload, and you both enjoy the success.

Good luck, and I might join you on one of those Amish trackdays!

Mike

Jon
just had a look at the site and it looks good but one comment is that when every I see a site with things that I don't expect (ie Hoods mania I can see hoods and other kitchen things but not trainers/heelys) I think the company is in financial difficulties and is looking for things to keep them going. I would probably not buy from them as I have lost money/time on companies that cannot backup the service they offer in the past.

That said I need to replace the filter in the cooker hood soon so I'll try to add to your excellent feedback score.

best of luck

Pete

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Thanks guys, I'm pretty lucky really, current employer recently made 6 redundant I asked then (November) but they would not let me go. I spoke with them last week still will not give me redundancy but want me to continue with them as and when required on a self employed basis, the odd trip abroad and on better terms so I guess its a safety net if required.

Currently weekends and evenings are full time sorting things out ready to dispatch etc instead of doing things families should do together, if we hadn't took the decision we have then we would have to wind in hoodmania (I know some of you don't like the name) but as above doors have opened that made the decision easy really, we are currently holding the sales back we have stock ready to let loose that will be at a great price for buyers but still cover our costs and some, just scary but you only live once and the last 6 months have been killers in terms of health, stress and NO time spent relaxing.

ulterior motive, guess whats coming to the new unit with me........isonblade n tool box

Best of luck Jon and June

Hope it pans out for you (cooker hood kitchen pun there) The redundancy would have been a bonus but if they will use you as a contractor that is good news (as long as they don't only give you the crap jobs) If you need a hand give us a shout.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision.

Best of luck to you both Jon.
