astra 2.0 ltr turbo question

had a mate of mine bring his astra coupe around tonight complaining that he had an oil leak in the engine bay and he could see oil running down the block. he had bought a spare rocker cover gasket with him as he thought that the one in the car was leaking and he wanted me to fit a new one.

ok i said and i started to take off the manifold that leads from the turbo over the top of the rocker cover and rejoins the casing for the air filter, as i lifted it off there was a section of hose that was connected to what appeared to be a breather pipe on the side of the rocker cover casing to the underside of the piping leading from the tubro to the air filter box, BUT IT HAD MELTED! (i replaced it with some braided hosing)

can anyone tell me what this pipe is for, its about 10mm i.d, im assuming it is just a breather but couldn't understand why it was connected to pipe going from the turbo back to the air filter box. also to prevent it from melting again, if it is a breather, could you not just block the pipe end on the pipe going from the turbo to the air filter box and have a small breather filter on the side of the rocker cover.

also inspected the rocker cover gasket and that was all fine so no worries there, im just concerned about this pipe.

hope i have explained that clearly enough, any help would be great

it is underneath the rectangular shaped manifold in the top right corner as you look at the picture and goes to an outlet on the rocker cover underneath the rectangular manifold by the first molded notch on the left hand side, where i have drawn the red line

also, do you have the spec for that stainless air intake, mt friend would be very interested in them as he was saying that he wanted to get one very similar.

I will have a look on my engine tomorrow to see if I can see what it is but suspect it will be some sort of breather. With regard to the stainless this isnt actually a picture of my engine but have seen some similar on ebay in the past.
