Im not sure. I know the old american hotrods do (even the ones in this country) but i have also seen hotrods driving round without wheelarches which i know is illegal.

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Alex - I have a similar problem, and found that by having the bonnet off, I stood a fair chance of burning myself, or passers by if it blew. With the bonnet on, everything is contained nicely....

Why is it blowing off?? Have you roughened up the surface of the pipe the hose connects too? Can you get it flared etc? Better hose clip??

Removing your bonnet will not ensure your top hose stays on!

I think it is frowned upon because of the potentially sharp edges & hot engine in your engine bay should you collide with someone.

i did it a few years ago in my 200sx. i had a new carbon bonnet on order from japan... i was waiting nearly 6 months for it since the shipment kept getting delayed. i had already sold my original original steel bonnet to make some space in the garage, as they are huge great bonnets on them

anyway i really wanted to take it out for a thrash. Needless to say i got loads of funny looks as i went for a blast around town in it
