FAIL!!!

So the TVR went to its MOT... and Failed...

Fail list goes as follows:

Front sidelights wrong colour (LEDs... my bad!)
Horn and washers not working... (loose wire)
Parking brake doesnt work... it reaches 60KGF.. need to be around 110 apparenly...Thats a LOT of efficiencey I have to find from somewhere :S

So paid the man at the MOT centre, got in the car to drive home and it wouldnt start... Oh dear!!!

Finaly manage to get it going, pull out onto the main road and put my foot down and it starts to judder... so I settle with 20mph...

Get to some big traffic lights... go to pull away and the damn thing stalls... and wont start for about 10 mins...

once its running it seems to idle ok, but if you put it under load it just cuts out... couldnt actually reverse it onto the drive because it couldt put out enough power to reverse up the slope

After a mission and a half its back in the garage... The waterpump is leaking water like a sieve... so I am guessing that the engine problems are caused by it getting too warm?

Fecking pain in the arris!!!

does it have a distributer if so the points may be firked or the condensor especially if power loss is so severe

It does have a distributor with points...

the engine was running perfectly with loads of power yesterday when I went out for a really short drive...

Would the points and or condensor really get screwed up in such a short time?

(Having said that... there is no resistor thing on the coil to drop the voltage once the engine is running... I wonder if the coil might be burning out?)

The coil could fail & cook the points, I've had that on a MIni. It did about 15 miles before the points gap closed & needed adjusted. It did even less before it did it again & was beyond adjusting. It melted the plastic spacer in the points

points can slip and condensers can burn out try wet and dry between points, could also be a carb problem if the cars been standing, also check earths. remove the disributer cap and clean contacts crank the engine ove with ignition on and see how health the pask looks before and after cleaning.

It could also have been caused by just leaving the ignition on, this will cook a coil.
