After 9 sessions of welding course
I was really happy last night. Got some amazing welds. I would have never thought of that. Really impressed.
As it was the one before the last session, not many people turned up so ended up haveing a chat with the lecturer asking him loads of questions on how
to do the frame in order to avoid distortion etc.....
Although the B*****D new that i want to build a Kit Car, he never mentioned a word until last night:
When I asked if he had ever seen a frame of a kit car
He replied
Ohh yes sure, i used to work for Marcos welding the chassis of Marcos Mantis.

You realise that you will now have to post some pictures to prove your worth as a welder?

I am doing mine through Wiltshire College.
The course is based at Lackam just 3 miles away from chippenham so not very far from where you live.

It's £105 for 10 weeks. Runing on Mondays Or Wednesdays from 7pm till 9pm.
1st session is Health and Safety, General knowledge, Some practice.
The rest are practice sessions. The lecturer goes around checking you out and helping with tips and tricks.
Unfortunatelly you don't get a certificate in the end.
If you want more info let me know. I should be able to help.

Do you think the course is actually helping your welding?
I did a course and was less than impressed....
Figured I would have learned more if I had bought the haynes welders guide and a decent welder and just "had a play".....
But thats just me...

My course at Brooklands college was fantastic.
Got a City and Guilds qualification at the end and they even said I could build the chassis there at the end of it!
Cheers,
James

I thought something similar when it came to welding up my chassis. Then after making a mess of loads of practise pieces, I got the coded welder next
door to give me a couple of hours guidance with the TIG. Having a teacher, even for a short while, is incredibly helpful. Really speeds up the
learning process.

Iwish i could do it as well. You can do small things of your own but you need to be able to take it with you home at the end as they cannot guarantee
that it will still be there next week.
you do get frustrated some times. You feel that you don’t make any progress but to be true that’s when you get your knowledge tested when you need to
identify the reasons of why it’s not going very well and you need to improve.
