ICE ( In Case Of Emergency)
Type: Common Interest - Beliefs & Causes
Description: Message from the Ambulance Service
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people
attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to
call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of
Emergency) Campaign.
Recent NewsThe concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact
during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the
majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a
contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under
the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a
paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there
were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number
to call.
He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a
nationally recognised name for this purpose.
In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff
would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply
dialling the number you have stored as 'ICE'.
Please forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put
a loved one's
mind at rest.
For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.
GROUP QUESTIONS ANSWERED
1) WONT PARAMEDICS JUST CALL HOME, MUM, DAD?
Answer: Not everyones mum or dad are still alive, some people do not have landlines. If you do still have mum and dad in your phone putting ICE after
the name will help emergency services know which person to contact.
2) MY PHONE WILL NOT LET ME SAVE THE SAME NUMBER IN MY PHONE AS MUM AND ICE WHAT CAN I DO?
answer: If your phone will not let you store ICE as a separate number then after MUM write ICE.
3) WHY SHOULD I WRITE ICE IF I ALREADY HAVE MUM AND DAD ON MY PHONE?
answer: you may wish to have a close friend or partner as your emergency contact person. For this simply store as E.G. ICE - SIMON (BF) OR ICE - LUCY
(if lucy is just a friend then they will ring her up to find out how she knows the person in trouble)
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE MUM AND DAD IN YOUR PHONE THEN USE THE 'ICE' CODE AFTER THEIR NAME.
PLEASE DO NOT SAVE MUM AND DAD JUST AS ICE CONTACTS IF YOUR PHONE DOESNT LET YOU SAVE 2 NUMBERS...AS IF YOUR FRIEND FINDS YOU ON THE STREET THEY MAY
NOT KNOW TO LOOK FOR 'ICE'
ITS IMPORTANT TO STILL HAVE MUM, DAD, HOME ETC IN YOUR PHONE BUT ICE IS USED IN ADDITION TO THESE CONTACTS FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS TO RING THE
PERSON THAT YOU WISH TO BE CONTACTED IN CASE OF EMERGENCY.
I HOPE THIS HELPS!
LOUISE
PLEASE PASS THIS AROUND AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AS THIS CAN HELP IN AN
EMERGENCY

Not nessarally. And if there no in under 'mum' or 'dad' it might not be obivous anyway.
- Ive done it for a few years, puting in parents details, but also others.
Do a fair bit of biking, and who knows what would happen if i came of. Even if i was found.

Not for me, it would be the wife. In your case, where you live at mum and dad's, then yes go for them. But if you live with your OH, then
I'd put them in.

Would you??? Not necessarily!
For a start they might be with you in the emergency...
2nd, not everyone still has their parents
3rd, the emergency might need some explaining to them.... maybe you just stacked their car you'd borrowed without asking... maybe some other
religious, ethical or whatever reason... you may just not get on with them!
It's a good idea I've known about for ages. Should get round to doing it myself really!
Cheers,
James

Hi
This something i was advised to do a few years ago due to being a Diabetic.
I have the wife under ICE 1 and parents under ICE 2. It is something that can really only help the emergency services particularly if you are on any
sort of repeat medication.
somebody had their brain in gear when they came up with the idea.
Cheers Matt

Just a point whilst on the subject, not sure if everyone is aware, but if you have an emergency, instead of dialling '999' from a mobile
dial '112'. It still connects you to the emergency network, but if the mobile network is busy, it will give you priority and if need be
kick someone else of to ensure you can get a connection.

112 is the European emergency number, both 112 and 999 (911 and 081 also work on some mobiles) all do the same thing and will kick non-emergency
people off the cell to get you through.
