OT - Tintop exhaust

Due to me being skint, when my exhaust started to blow, the only way i could sort it was to weld a straight pipe in the place of the silencer and use the good silencer (the one that hasnt blown) on the locost.
I took her out today and there is a very loud drone between 2100 and 2600 rpm. Its so loud i was driving at 70mph in 3rd to keep the revs above this.
When i replaced the exhaust i didnt use any exhaust paste as i didnt have any and one of them has a slight blow. Would this cause the drone?

Is the exhaust system still nice and free under the car, jags have three boxes and you can usually lose either the middle or last pair.

If you have now got the system hanging tightly it will make a lot of noise inside the car, failing that its resonance, paste will not sort this out if its not blowing anywhere. basically you have now tuned your exhaust system to make work like a trumpet, hit the right revs and it will bellow!
