OT2 - solid fuel range cooker
do these things still exist, e.g. Aga(?)
let's say I am looking at something to run on wood, anyone got experience of one?
how much do they consume when ticking over? how long can they tick over?
how long to get up to temp from tick over?
how long to fire up from cold?
and any other related info., be handy.

You want a Rayburn. They go for between £300 - £1000 second hand on Ebay.
I'm currently looking at buying one for my new house in Devon. A Rayburn will run on solid fuel, logs/peat/coal, or oil.
The solid fuel versions can be converted to oil burning but the oil version cannot be converted to solid fuel. Apparently the walls in the burner box
are thinner on the oil burning models.
If you want to cook on it daily then you are best keeping it alight 24 hours a day. You can fill the burner box and close the vents and it will burn
very slowly whilst your asleep and be alight when you get up. Open the vents and throw in some more fuel to get it going again.
They are VERY heavy (350kg 'ish) and take a long time to get up to temperature if you want to cook on it. I'm guessing - but I think you
would have to light it before 8am to cook on it at 1pm - that's a very approximate guess
