What's involved in importing a car from Japan?

I've been shown a website which is a sort of auto trader for Japanese car exports. There are some low mileage good condition cars there at reasonable prices. Shipping to the UK is estimated at £320 for a Roll on Roll off car transporter but you have to wait for a space because the major manufactures have priority but it seems a good deal could be had.

What's involved in registering JDM cars in the UK? Do you have to pay import duty? Is it expensive? Is it just a case of a DVLA inspection or do you have to have IVA? What mods are needed for the UK? Is it just rear fogs and MPH on the speedo or is there more? If there are lots of cost add ons it might not be worth the bother.

The two cars I bought in had to go through SVA, so yup! Hello IVA. Registration fees of course and other stuff too.

Your better off going though a dealer such as Newera or such like depending on what your afrter

If its broke, fix it. If it aint broke, take it apart and find out how it works!

as above you do need iva, also if the car is less than ten years old you also have to pay for somthing about the type approval. As for mods, pretty much just fog light and a speedo conversion.

What car were you thinking of?
There are plenty of sites out there with loads of info on bringing them into the country. Just remember that you'll need iva now, not sva.
