they have a big problem ,as there know as the poor mans 911 ,i like them but would never buy one ,my mate had one for over a year and had loads a guy say stuff like are you saving up for the 911 ect.it well pissed him of ,he went and got a 911

Only real downer I know of is the image. Either "rich hairdresser" or "can't afford a 911".

Boss of mine had one and liked it a lot, but he was a Finn and a lot of them are/were built in Finland so he would have said it was the best car in the world for that reason alone.

Other than that they are a bit expensive and don't have enough seats to be a daily driver for me.

I saw one on an eSkip classified ad last week with about 80k on it, on a '99 for £8k! A lot of car for the money I think (if that's your bag).....

Pretty much the perfect convertible IMHO... and probably the only car that both me and the wifey have agreed that we will buy another one day!

Anyone taking the wee is either doing it through mis-placed jest, jealousy, or naivety.

My answer to those who go down the 'poor mans 911' route is... a 911 is just a rich mans Boxster! It's certainly not worth the extra £20K+

If I wanted a Porsche Convertible, then the Boxster would win over the 911 every time.

If I wanted a Coupe, then the Cayman would win every time.

And... yes, I have driven 911's. Very nice, but I cannot understand the fuss (and extra dough) it commands!

I have looked into getting one in the past for the Wife,But for what I could afford. Read early high milers,the underlining maintence costs were silly. Settled on a "new" MINI instead. At least the kids could fit in it.
I did like what I saw when looking at them and would consider one in the future. With this in mind here is a link to manwells for various porkers inc the Boxdresser.

Mate of mine delivers new cars for a living and having driven many Boxsters descibes them as pretty crappy with no performance.
When he collects them as exchanges all of the owners say they have been extremely disappointed with them, both from a performance and reliabilty point of view.

To quote Jeremy Clarkeson when he road tested it:

I don't know what car you drive Scootz but if it's a sevenesque type car with a decent engine then you would be very disappointed when you drove a Boxster.

It's a Porsche Boxster... why would you want to compare it to a Sevenesque car?

It's as fast (if not faster) than it's direct competition... Z4, SLK, S2000, etc.

Mid-5's on a 0-60 run isn't bad for a superbly well constructed production car is it? Hardly a slouch?

Found the Clarkson quote - it was the 2.7 base model he was testing - the 3.2S was a good bit faster... the newer 3.4 faster still.

A few more sentences before and after his quote may put his 'view' into context!
