Just after some advice or suggestions on raising some extra money maybe a longer term thing rather than just a quick bit of cash.

never an easy question otherwise everyone else would be doing it. always thought about the buying and selling on ebay, but so many people do it now just seems pointless,

I'd like to make things and sell but have no idea what.

If you have any computer programing or web page development skills you can do some contract work with that. People post their needs/wants like in classified ads and you do the work and get paid.

Some friends of mine have done it several time and they make a few hundred bucks.

I'm not scared!!! I'm just marking my territory.

What about buying and selling low price cars?

Buy a bargain cheap car at auction or similar, give it a good clean and polish, then sell it on for a small profit?

Or does that all sound a bit dishonest!?

I have always managed to make a bit on cars when stuffed for cash, its easy waste your time though so beware. You have to make a choice really go for high gain on something unusual or try and do a load of small stuff.

As an example I got a mint rangerover with Turbo techniques conversion with a blown gearbox for £1000, changed the box which cost £100 but struggled to sell for £1500, the engine was worth that alone, all the effort was not worth the money on this one in my opinion.

But on a more positive note got a XJS for £1500 with no MOT due to front wheel bearing, changed that £30 + MOT £40 and sold on for £2,700 a few weeks later.

But if you want to deal with cheapies then small diesel cars can make a couple of hundred, I picked up a 306 XNDT last week with an MOT failure sheet for £100, a few bushes and track rod ends. This will probally make me £500 as the parts have cost £70 and took 1/2 day to fit.

If you have time on your hands go down the auction, some stuff is pennies, my mate got a 98 TDI Discovery 2 months ago for £300, its mint, easily worth £1k on Ebay. He however defeated the object by giving it to his wife as it was better than the car he had so sold that one on, still for a profit.

Regards Mark

Mark, I always wondered if the restoring cars like on Wheeler Dealers was a viable option. By the sound of it it's a case of getting the right car to begin with

I would like something where you just sit at home in the back garden, and wait for the cheques to arrive. I think it's called retirement. You do need to eat catfood once in a while though, at least that's what they lead you to believe.
